So if a Banksy painting appeared in your house you were about to sell would you cancel the sale?

Because this is what a woman in Bristol has done! She was about to exchange but has now taken her house off the market as she’s been told the painting/house could now be worth £5million.

Would someone actually pay £5million for the house? It looks a significant size painting but is on the actual house wall. So not sure how or if the painting could be removed to put in a gallery, etc. And I don’t think the people who could afford £5million want to live in what was a £300,000 house in Bristol. 🤷‍♀️

Yes I would stay but I am an art lover. Guessing some people wouldn't bother.

Europilgrim · 11/12/2020 12:31

Erm..yes. Sorry potential buyer but you'll have to take it up with Banksy!

WitchesSpelleas · 11/12/2020 12:32

I'd be tempted to prosecute Banksy for vandalism TBH.

Deadringer · 11/12/2020 12:35

If i thought i would get millions for it yes of course i would cancel, seems a bit unlikely though.

cheezy · 11/12/2020 12:37

Couldn’t it easily be vandalised? I guess she’ll be responsible for keeping a work of art safe.

That’s my thinking. That nobody is going to pay for it and she’s lost her house sale. Guess it’s worth a gamble. She’s screwed Perspex over it to try and keep it safe.

There was a tiny Banksy where I used to live and the council installed some sort of perspex box over it to protect it.

SoupDragon · 11/12/2020 12:52

I imagine you'd have to remove a section of the wall and then re-build it. Worthwhile if it's going to sell for a lot of money.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 11/12/2020 12:52

There’s no way the house would be worth what the Banksy is (theoretically) worth but it probably would bump up the value for some buyers. However, that’s a niche buyer who would pay over the odds and so you’d probably wait longer on the market. Plus, there’s be other buyers who be put off by the Banksy because of the thought of having hoarders of gawkers and tourists hanging around outside their house, photographing it day in, day out.

orangenasturtium · 11/12/2020 12:52

Yes, I would pull out. The painting is worth more than the house. Banksy murals on buildings have been removed and sold before or sold with the building "thrown in for free".

AppleKatie · 11/12/2020 13:19

The person who buys the house will also be able to afford not to live there. So yes I’d pull out and relist.

Pull out and relist. And get some art major expert to come and erect protection

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2020 13:23

Yes I would, she needs to look to see if it can be removed, rebuilt and the painting sold.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/12/2020 13:23

I'd absolutely withdraw from the market until I was better informed about what I was dealing with and relisted for a better price. I'd get it done quick sharp though because I bet it's a pain in the arse becoming an accidental custodian.

User9574 · 11/12/2020 13:24

Well I wouldn't just sell it and let someone else profit so yes I'd pull out and look at options.

Milomonster · 11/12/2020 13:24

Yep, I’d pull out. I would have it carefully removed and sell it along with the house. What a cool feeling to wake up to this.

merryhouse · 11/12/2020 13:25

I'd be tempted to remove it, actually. As in, get the turpentine out Grin

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/12/2020 13:26

Its going to be a difficult house to sell. It's on one of the steepest streets in England (about 1:4 or steeper) and parking is a nightmare. You need to use a brick to chock the wheels when you park up (I have a friend who lives around the corner).

AnnnaBananna · 11/12/2020 13:27

Yes I would pull out of the sale and sell the artwork with the house thrown in for free. The new owner could remove the artwork and take it away then rebuild the wall.

Chloemol · 11/12/2020 13:28

No, I would be getting the graffiti, because that’s what it is , removed, and carry on with the sale

I fail to see why people are happy to moan about graffiti everywhere, but really happy for Banksie to graffiti everywhere

I get he wants to paint, fine, but do it on canvas or paper like everyone else

VettiyaIruken · 11/12/2020 13:29

@WitchesSpelleas

That's just made me wonder something. If banksy tiptoes round your house in the middle of the night and does a huge painting without your permission, do you have any obligation to keep it there? It's your property, he didn't have permission, if you wanted to have it stripped off, would you face any consequences?

(I'm guessing not but you never know!)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/12/2020 13:33

Yes! Of course I would. There has been a material change to the property. Why the hell wouldn't you?

If a crater had opened up underneath the garden the buyer would pull out... so it goes both ways!

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/12/2020 13:43

All of you who would want to get banksy done for graffitiing on your house, or would get the turps out- yeah right Grin. You’d be over the moon, he’d have made you a millionaire.

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2020 13:45

Lol, at the peoooe saying they’d destroy it. Sure you would. You’d destroy a five million dollar picture. 😂
