So if a Banksy painting appeared in your house you were about to sell would you cancel the sale?

Because this is what a woman in Bristol has done! She was about to exchange but has now taken her house off the market as she’s been told the painting/house could now be worth £5million.

Would someone actually pay £5million for the house? It looks a significant size painting but is on the actual house wall. So not sure how or if the painting could be removed to put in a gallery, etc. And I don’t think the people who could afford £5million want to live in what was a £300,000 house in Bristol. 🤷‍♀️

@FippertyGibbett

No, I’d get it painted over and carry on.
You'd happily wave goodbye to a few million pounds? Why?
todayIdrankmilk · 12/12/2020 08:53

I would paint over it ..... or threatened to sue if banksy didn't paint over it ....seriously

Plussizejumpsuit · 12/12/2020 08:56

I can't stand his shitty artwork so I would still sell.

AppleKatie · 12/12/2020 08:58

Nobody’s suggesting you keep it 😅

TableCat · 12/12/2020 09:07

In all honesty, if I was selling and it happened I would pull out and try to get more money as I know other people value the art. And who turns down free money?

If I was happy in my home and had no intention of moving I would be straight out there with my paintbrush and getting rid of it because I think it is horrible and I wouldn't want to look at it everyday.

I would also attach trellis and a climbing plant to prevent a copycat trying to do it again.

I, personally , wouldn't differentiate between Banksy and any yob with a spray can.

x2boys · 12/12/2020 09:09

The reply,s on here 😂😂yeah of course people would paint over it or bleach it out ,you don't have to like an artist's work to benefit from £5million only on Mumsnet!

EstebanTheMagnificent · 12/12/2020 09:13

The Brian Sewells of Mumsnet...

TableCat · 12/12/2020 09:13

@x2boys I absolutely would paint over it, If I didn't want to move.
I wouldn't want to look at it and I wouldn't want to go through the faff of having it removed then having to try and make good the render so it didn't look as if a repair had to be made.

Yeah you would. you’d also set fire to five million . Same thing. You’d not have it removed, sell it. And then continue to live there. Nah. You’d paint over it. 😂

x2boys · 12/12/2020 09:23

Right so you would say good buy to £5 million ? Why would you do that ?? You could just sell the entire house to a dealer and let them deal with the Hassle and move somewhere far nicer with your 5 million quid 😂😂

GreenOlivesinGin · 12/12/2020 09:25

Yes I would definitely pull out of the sale.
She is no longer selling a house, she will be selling a work of art. People who buy art at that level are not going to buy the house to live in it! It may not be immediately obvious how it would work, but I would pull out even to just think about it and work it out.

TableCat · 12/12/2020 09:29

Yes because Banksy is a terrible yob.
He has no right to vandalize anybody's property.
Graffiti is anti social behaviour. His pictures are awful.
But mumsnet for all it pretends to be middle class is clearly actually full of disgusting yobs with no idea of property rights. And more interested in money than being decent human beings. DISGUSTING!!!!

x2boys · 12/12/2020 09:36

Well Banksy may well be a terrible yob but his art work is worth is worth a fortune and I would be delighted to benefit from it as clearly this seller is planning on doing ,and most people in real life would

mummmy2017 · 12/12/2020 09:39

Can you imagine the people on here saying carry on with the sale, posting in 2021 about how the new owner sold the painting for millions and how they were robbed and can they sue.

peppermintteadrinker · 12/12/2020 10:01

Yeah dick move. Agreed

hellymissy · 12/12/2020 10:08

Cancel the sale. Maybe it makes me money grabbing but it'd be legal to do so - if I'd exchanged I wouldn't but they haven't exchanged so there's no commitment at the end of the day

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 12/12/2020 10:30

It does chance the ‘product’ for sale. A small fire would also change the value and send prospective buyers fleeing.

Loads of comments on news reports and a couple on here about him using a stencil but he comes up with the ideas and makes his stencils.
Do you also think the people on Portrait/Landscape artist of the year who use stencils or do collages are not artists either?

All the people who are saying they would bleach it or paint over it are very privileged to be in such a healthy financially position. Lucky you, but you might want to dial the superior attitude a lot of people are struggling and this would totally change their life.

goldenpineapplehead · 12/12/2020 11:16

I'd pull out take the banks painting out and then sell house again. Or potentially borrow off the back of the painting if that was an option for a new house and still own the house.

If banksys reading me pm me for my address. Grin

x2boys · 12/12/2020 11:26

Im just imagining an army of mumsnetter,s with their buckets of bleach tutting ,whilst trying to scrub out Banksey,s art work whilst at the same time refusing to sell their houses to art dealers just so they can be smug in their knowledge that they have taught Banksey a lesson that they don't appreciate his art work😂😂

Daisyhoney · 12/12/2020 13:57

Personally I can't even see how spray painting through a stencil can suddenly be worth £5 million - it's totally ridiculous. It's just graffiti and without consent is a criminal offence. Nobody knows who this person is and there is a good reason for this - he is breaking the law

frogsareflyinginfromthewest · 12/12/2020 14:10

She hasn't pulled out of the sale....and is still getting abuse for it! Feel sorry for her tbh, she didn't ask for the attention.
