So if a Banksy painting appeared in your house you were about to sell would you cancel the sale?

Because this is what a woman in Bristol has done! She was about to exchange but has now taken her house off the market as she’s been told the painting/house could now be worth £5million.

Would someone actually pay £5million for the house? It looks a significant size painting but is on the actual house wall. So not sure how or if the painting could be removed to put in a gallery, etc. And I don’t think the people who could afford £5million want to live in what was a £300,000 house in Bristol. 🤷‍♀️

Those saying they'd sell it - it's actually quite hard to sell a Banksy.

Rockbird · 11/12/2020 13:52

He gets on my absolute tits so I would be less than pleased at him scribbling on the side of my house.

Girlyracer · 11/12/2020 13:54

Absolutely. There's money on that there wall.

Circusoflove · 11/12/2020 13:55

She’s probably been taking advice on this and working out whether it can be removed for sale etc. I can’t see it being easy. The house was rented so presumably she doesn’t need to sell to move which might make things more urgent.

By the way the area is extremely popular and there will be no trouble reselling. It was on for £340k for a slightly odd 2 bed with tiny garden and went straight away.

Heartofglass12345 · 11/12/2020 13:55

Me too Rockbird. What's so special about him? If it was anyone else it would be graffiti!!
Did he actually break into this persons house and draw on their wall??
I wouldn't be happy, the thought of some stranger coming into my house without me knowing Hmm

BobbinThreadbare123 · 11/12/2020 13:58

The temptation to paint over it would be very strong!

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 11/12/2020 14:03

I bet the buyer’s are pissed off! Grin

naptimeismyhappytime · 11/12/2020 14:03

@Heartofglass12345 break into her house?? It's outside...

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 11/12/2020 14:04

But, I too would have pulled out of the sale.

I’m off to Google what his other artwork has gone for.

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2020 14:08

Some real bullshit on here. No one but no one, on seeing a painting that could be worth millions appear on the side of their house, would destroy it. You’d immediately try to work out if it could be protected, removed and sold. Who the fuck walks away from five million.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 11/12/2020 14:11

Top whack for a Banksy is about £9M I think. Getting it authorised as an "official Banksy" isn't particularly easy.

MyGazeboisLeaking · 11/12/2020 14:21

@MrsMoastyToasty

Its going to be a difficult house to sell. It's on one of the steepest streets in England (about 1:4 or steeper) and parking is a nightmare. You need to use a brick to chock the wheels when you park up (I have a friend who lives around the corner).

Blimey - that parking situation scares me just reading about it!!

GenderApostate19 · 11/12/2020 14:28

It’s disgraceful to deface someone’s home without permission, I don’t care who does it, it’s wrong. I’d be furious.

It's been authenticated by Banksy on his website.
DelphineWalsh · 11/12/2020 14:47

I'd pull out to renegotiate the price but she wouldn't get 5million for it. Its still just a average terrace house in Totterdown.

nosswith · 11/12/2020 15:03

I'd be tempted to do the same, but cannot imagine Robin visiting where I live.

x2boys · 11/12/2020 15:06

I assume if you had £5 million to spend on a Banksey art work you probably wouldn't want to live in house ? Could the wall not be removed somehow?

Unicorn34 · 11/12/2020 15:07

So please don't shoot me down in flames as I ask this question but......

How does no one see Banksy doing these paintings on the sides of houses? Surely they would take a while to do, especially the larger or more detailed ones. HOW??????

I think there is a pre done stencil. So the stencil is taped on, spray can paint is used, stencil removed. So quite quick.

Re how he does it - it’s just a stencil.

I don’t get the hype about banksy, graffiti artists with talent don’t use stencils. Obviously if it appeared on the side of my house I wouldn’t destroy it.

Banksy can come and deface my house any time he chooses if I can get £5m out of it.
Unicorn34 · 11/12/2020 15:23

Thank you for the info!

Burnthurst187 · 11/12/2020 15:26

I would look into having the piece cut out of the wall. It's obviously genuine as it's pictured on his official site. Not sure if you need more than that though. Will be worth six figures, not millions

Remove it, then sell the house. I'd like to keep it for a bit but you're house would probably get broken into

ClinkyMonkey · 11/12/2020 15:33

'Just' a stencil? I presume Banksy doesn't buy them off Amazon, but designs them himself.

If Banksy used my house as a canvas, I'd stay put because I think his work is wonderful.

I could always charge people to look at it, like the horrible aunties from James and the Giant PeachGrinGrinGrin

parietal · 11/12/2020 15:35

@Unicorn34 - yes, Banksy uses a pre-prepared stencil so as to get an interesting design done quickly.
