How much sleep do you get?

I have schizoaffective I used to take 7 sedatives and slept 10hrs a night I swapped the two strongest sedatives as they were making me gain too much weight so now only sleep 6hrs.

My sleep is very important for monitoring my state of mind so I'm asking here for a kind of poll on how much sleep a normal person has?

I still take 5 sedatives (zopiclone diazapam 2 clonazepam and mirtazapine) yet only sleep 6 hours maximum. So how much do you sleep if allowed to wake naturally?

7 hours i think

ScrumptiousBears · 11/12/2020 05:44

I average about 5hrs a night. Not through choice but just life. When I'm on call I average about 3. I struggle massively with tiredness.

lifestooshort123 · 11/12/2020 05:46

I sleep in 2 hour slots and, if I'm lucky, manage 6hrs in total. Sometimes the first slot is 3hrs but the total is still 6. Last night it was only 5 as I had some pain which kept me awake. I'm retired so can nap for an hr during the day if I have to but I seem to manage on this generally. If I'm really zonked then I take 25mg of phenergan which does the trick for 7hrs but leaves me a bit spaced out.

I get between 2-4 hours a night. Sad

I fall asleep easily but can't stay asleep.

jessstan1 · 11/12/2020 05:50

I hope you don't take all five sedatives at once! I presume they are staggered through the day . Zopiclone doesn't do much, two hours sleep if you are lucky and can have horrible side effects, like restless legs; zolpidem the same.

Six hours sleep is not bad especially if you go to bed late so you aren't awake at the crack of dawn.

Kinsters · 11/12/2020 05:51

For me I naturally sleep 7 or 8 hours. It's been so long since I slept naturally that I can't really remember though. At the moment I sleep about 8 or 9 hours in small chunks as my daughter is a very bad sleeper.

Theodoreb · 11/12/2020 05:53

@jessstan1 I do take them all together on the advice of my psychiatrist as that is how I am prescribed them, i used to take two olanzapine as well so have no worries about me overdoing the sedatives.

Thanks for all replies sad for those of you who for whatever reason don't get much sleep.

Depends hugely on bedtime and what is going on. Been averaging 6hr 15 according to fitbit. Some nights will be 7.5 even 9.

onyourway · 11/12/2020 06:34

7 hours or maybe 7.5 if lucky.

PaperMonster · 11/12/2020 07:23

I need 9-10 hours to function properly. I’ve developed insomnia this year though so really struggling. Just had two good nights’ sleep though, hurrah!!

vjg13 · 11/12/2020 09:52

According to my Fitbit around 6-7 but definitely feel I would benefit from more, take a melatonin gummy each night.

Moonshine160 · 11/12/2020 09:53

About 7 hours.

zafferana · 11/12/2020 09:55

I naturally sleep for about 7.5 hrs and I awake feeling good and refreshed, but I don't take any meds and I take regular exercise, which I'm sure helps me to sleep well.

Lovelydovey · 11/12/2020 09:59

Probably around 8 naturally (10.30 to 6.30) but sometimes less and very occasionally more.
