Isn't it lovely when someone does something so right?

A bus driver went on an impromptu diversion when a passenger broke down in tears realising she what boarded the wrong bus and would miss her half hour slot to see her mother in a care home. He got her there.

Well done Alec Bailey

Such a beautiful spontaneous thing to do, made such a significant difference for both women

Just lovely to hear about this. If we could all just do the right thing a bit more how it would help. Everyone (me included) is so wrapped up in targets, money making, the latest must haves etc that decency is going out of the window.

I know that lots of people are doing lots of good things, big and small, and that they each make a huge difference.

The one really touched me!

Not quite the same but in my first year of uni, new city, I got a bus that would have got me home with a small walk. Bus driver wasn’t happy with it as it was dark and he was worried about my safety. I was the only person on the bus so he diverted to catch up with the bus that drops you outside student accommodation. Lovely gesture. Some real decent people out there!

Yes once I was the only passenger on a rail replacement bus service so the driver took me directly to my friends house instead of the station. Like the worlds biggest taxi!

What a lovely thing to do. When my 80+yo Nana used to catch a bus home (to her house in the middle of nowhere) the driver would drive around the block to drop her off outside her house so she didnt have far to walk.

I agree. What a lovely man. And lovely passengers who were happy to detour. The daughter looks so happy in the photo!

And the bus company, who have said they're really proud of him.

And it's heartening to hear the other stories of drivers doing the right thing at other times.

I was once out very late at night in a deserted bit of London walking to the bus stop for a night bus home. One came past me and I started to run even though I hadn’t a hope of making it. Driver stopped and held the bus for a good few minutes until I panted up because he ‘wanted you home safe, love’.

About 25 years ago I got on the wrong train in China. When the conductor realised, he radioed for the train I should have got on to make a special stop at the next station to pick me up. I can't even remember where I was going but I'll never forget that kind act!

A bus driver once diverted his bus to take me to my door when it was snowing and my actual bus didn't show up. I'd been waiting two hours before deciding to get a bus which went about a mile from home.

notangelinajolie · 11/12/2020 01:02

Yes, I was the only person on the last bus. I was 17 years old and the driver drove me and his double decker bus right to my door. The sight of a double decker bus on our tiny crescent if any one had been up late enough to see it would have made the pages of the local newspaper for sure.
I genuinely thought I'd imagined for years until my dad mentioned it one day. He'd been looking out of the window waiting for me to come home.

Defenbaker · 11/12/2020 01:14

Ah, that's lovely. What a heart warming story.

I’ve known some lovely bus drivers who have gone above and beyond.

Grand job Alec.Star

And to the two who have been so lovely to me (north east) lately? I am so very grateful for your kindness. Flowers
