To think my parcel is lost

Hi
Hoping someone can help me as I'm pulling my hair out.
I ordered two items from the USA within 1 day of each other, one on the 16th November and one on the 17th November- both from the same company and both sent via USPS.

The one I ordered on the 17th November arrived a couple of days ago. I had tracking information and every couple of days it updated to tell me where it was. The other item I ordered on the 16th April has gone a completely different route and has been 'stuck' in Denver for the last 2 weeks without the tracking updating and it hasn't arrived.

I have emailed the company I ordered from with no response. The item wasn't particularly expensive (80 dollars) BUT It's the one thing my daughter has asked for for Christmas and it's now completely sold out. I couldn't order it until that date as that was when it was released.

I'm panicking, Iv tried to contact both the company and USPS with no reply. I know it's a busy time of year and I don't mind waiting. It's not the fact it hasn't arrived yet but more the fact the tracking just has stopped dead for 2 weeks which makes me think the item is lost.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do or whether this is normal? As Iv never bought something from the US before.

Thank you

Sorry it should say 16th November- not April!

USPS in a terrible state right now with Covid and everything. Far, far worse than Royal Mail. There's been a lot of problems.

sonjadog · 10/12/2020 21:32

This has happened to me a couple of times with items I have bought from America since the start of the whole Covid thing. My packages sat in Philadelphia for weeks. They all turned up in the end though. Be patient.

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 21:33

There's a global shipping crisis at the moment. Lots of Christmas orders are caught up in that, I'm guessing.

Both me and DD have had parcels where the courier was UPS. In both cases, they went to a local shop that acts as a picking up spots for this particular carrier. Worth a try?

SwedishEdith · 10/12/2020 21:35

Sorry, yours is likely to be air freight but, I'm guessing, still Covid effect, I'd think.

qudugv · 10/12/2020 21:39

Thanks everyone
I had no idea USPS was in such a state, I gathered with Covid and Christmas there might be delays, it was more just the fact it hadn't moved in so long and I can't seem to get hold of anyone about it either

@sonjadog great to here that your items turned up in the end! Can you remember how long they took to arrive? Just hoping my item comes in time for Christmas.

Wish I had of ordered both items together now! I keep checking and checking the tracking, it's driving me mad

@user1471453601
Thank you! It's USPS not UPS, when the first parcel arrived in the UK it was handled by Royal Mail- I had a leaflet through to pay a customs charge on it. So I'm assuming that this other parcel would be the same, but thank you 😊

@user1471453601 USPS = US Postal Service

sonjadog · 10/12/2020 21:51

I just checked and they took just under a month from ordering to arrival.

Donkeytail · 10/12/2020 21:58

That seems to be pretty standard. I'm in a facebook group for online sellers and packages are getting held up for weeks in the US. Like you say they just aren't moving. I'd say it will turn up but when is anyones guess.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/12/2020 22:01

Probably not a lot you can do unfortunately. The company can refund you but that doesn't replace an item that's now sold out. You could try getting a replacement on ebay but that's likely to be over the odds if its a popular sold out item.

It seems like the whole postal service is a mess. My monthly gin subscription box took about 2 weeks longer than it should to be delivered and I could see on the tracking that it was ages before it was logged on receipt at RM and then bizarrely it was shunted round 3 different sorting offices in my county.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/12/2020 22:02

It might turn up eventually, but whether that's by Christmas, who knows?

There's still a couple of weeks, fingers crossed.

SunshinePaddles · 10/12/2020 22:07

USPS is dreadful at the moment. I am still waiting on a package that was shipped priority mail (2-3 days). It's now day 10 and it's still at least another 3-4 days away from being delivered according to its last scan location. I live in the US.

qudugv · 10/12/2020 22:16

@sonjadog thank you! I suppose there's hope it might still come, it would be a month on Monday.

I have tried contacting the seller, not for a refund as I can see they have posted it and I'm happy to hold off at the moment, incase it still comes. But not sure what to do if it doesn't arrive as they don't seem to answer any messages. I can't get the item of eBay, it's not that it's particularly wanted or valuable, it's just not that popular and the few that were available are now gone. My daughter is autistic so it's a bit of a random item and she is fully expecting Santa to bring it for Christmas! So I'm just praying it arrives.

I didn't realise USPS was in such a bad way, it's gone a very strange route as it's gone to one place, then back on itself!! Just hoping it turns up soon
