Am I going to let DD look like an idiot sending her in like this tomorrow?

It’s Christmas jumper day tomorrow and yesterday I rushed out to get something for both kids.

I managed to get a jumper for DS but nothing for dd as there was nothing in her size.

Finally found what I thought was a long sleeved dress and thought fab. She can wear that over her uniform.

Got it home...and dh pointed out it was a nightdress.

I have no one to ask and no way to buy anything else.

So my choices are:-

Send her with the nightdress jumper or send her in anything I can find in the drawers.

Which one would be better?

Yeah looks like a dress to me and she's only 7 as well so easier to get away with. The material looks thicker than a normal night dress

LostAcre · 10/12/2020 15:43

Looks fine to me.

My DC’s primary school did dress like an elf day a few days ago, and quite a few kids were wearing what looked like elf pyjamas.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 10/12/2020 15:46

I’d wear that as a dress...

So hands up whose kids have dropped a Christmas jumper request last minute? Mine came in the recent bloody lockdown!

lazylump72 · 10/12/2020 16:06

I think its lovely ...she will look great x My 9 yr old wont wear xmas jumpers anyway so she always goes in just anything lol ..no one really cares!!!! Hope your dd has a good day

Paddingtonthebear · 10/12/2020 16:08

My 8yr old was eyeing that up in Sainsbury’s last night! I think it would be fine with tights and boots, maybe a chunky cardigan. Mine would wear it to school

wildraisins · 10/12/2020 16:13

Doesn't really matter if it says it's nightwear on the label. Lots of nightwear is just t-shirts/ leggings etc that can double up during the day as long as it's warm enough! It's not like it's checked flannel pyjamas or something.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/12/2020 16:28

I think it's genius. As it's a nightie she can also get some wear out of it and it'll be less of a waste.

Last year new HT swapped Christmas Jumper day last year for a "Dress down day". Wear a christmas jumper if you want but no pressure.

It is lovely, she should be fine but I wish schools didn't do this. I feel for some families who just can't afford to go and buy Christmas jumpers or Pudsey t shirts or whatever else comes up during the year but I know I'm missing the point.

fruitpastille · 10/12/2020 16:58

I think it's fine. At most schools you can always just wear a bit of tinsel or similar instead of buying a Christmas jumper. My dds school PTA does a second hand jumper sale which is a good idea.

fashu · 10/12/2020 17:47

I think if you DD is comfortable to wear it then it will look fine.
I think it's pretty cute and I would probably wear something similar myself!

ancientgran · 10/12/2020 19:18

fruitpastille that is OK if the kids are OK with it but if you are always the poor kid it must be horrible. I know a school where they all decorated old jumpers which I thought was great but yet again being the kid without the "right" thing isn't the same.

I agree. Another pressure on parents. And so many jumpers bought just to be worn once or twice.
ancientgran · 10/12/2020 22:29

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor, I was at a friends when her daughter came in with her new onesie that had been bought for a fund raising thing at school, children to go in nightware and pay £1 for the privilege. I asked how much the onesie was and it was something like £10 so my friend had paid £10 so she could donate £1 to a charity. I know the little girl will probably use the onesie but it just didn't seem very logical to me and again the poorest kids wouldn't get new nightware and the £1 would be alot for some families.

I know it is meant well, I know it is probably fun for most but I just can't feel comfortable with it. I much preferred the school where the kids brought in old jumpers and did a craft project decorating them with tinsel and baubles which was all unwanted stuff that was donated.

BuzzingtheBee · 10/12/2020 22:31

Its perfect

MinesAPintOfTea · 10/12/2020 22:38

Our school gave all the kids an extra school jumper on Monday to ease pain on family money... then on Wednesday announced a Christmas jumper Day on Friday. For gifts to do into hampers for our struggling families.

The lack of joined up thinking there 🤦‍♀️ Own clothes day would make much more sense.

Plus I don’t like them on principle. A jumper that they will wear 4 times then grow out of is pretty wasteful.

ancientgran · 11/12/2020 10:32

MinesAPintOfTea that is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of, it is all so illogical and wasteful.
