Am I going to let DD look like an idiot sending her in like this tomorrow?

It’s Christmas jumper day tomorrow and yesterday I rushed out to get something for both kids.

I managed to get a jumper for DS but nothing for dd as there was nothing in her size.

Finally found what I thought was a long sleeved dress and thought fab. She can wear that over her uniform.

Got it home...and dh pointed out it was a nightdress.

I have no one to ask and no way to buy anything else.

So my choices are:-

Send her with the nightdress jumper or send her in anything I can find in the drawers.

Which one would be better?

Do you have a belt you could put round, or even some tinsel to make it look more like a dress, with a pair of tights?

Soubriquet · 10/12/2020 13:07

@KenAdams

Ha - this is hilarious, I did exactly the same with the same dress! I've been able to get a jumper delivered today though. Our Sainsburys had it next to the dresses though, not in the PJ section.
Glad I’m not the only one!

And same here. It wasn’t with the night stuff either

I think it's great too! Smile

Kippure · 10/12/2020 13:09

Put it this way, it was Christmas jumper day today at DS’s school, and two of his classmates in the line as I dropped him were cheerfully discussing the fact that their ‘Christmas jumpers’ were fleecy pyjama tops. Worn with singing antlers in one case.

Queenoftheashes · 10/12/2020 13:10

Would never have guessed that was a nightie!

scrivette · 10/12/2020 13:11

It's too nice to be a nightdress, no one will guess!

DS has asked to wear his pyjama top on Christmas jumper day so I am sure there will be plenty of children with nightwear there anyway.

BiscuitDrama · 10/12/2020 13:11

My only thought is if someone else has it and wears it as a nightie, and tells her it’s a nightie. I’d do some damage limitation and tell her it’s really cool, because it can be either. Then of someone says something she’ll just shrug and say it’s either.

Soubriquet · 10/12/2020 13:15

I have told her it’s a nightie and she’s ok with that. I just didn’t want her to look like an idiot.

The kids have to wear normal uniform with their jumper, so my plan is:-
Vest
School shirt
Tights
Dress over the top
Her cardigan

Her normal uniform apart from she would normally wear a piniform instead of the dress

I agree, looks very similar to what many adults wear. As long as she is fine with it, it's great.

BiscuitDrama · 10/12/2020 13:29

That sounds great then.

Apandemicyousay · 10/12/2020 13:29

It’s fine. I also remember last year a mum pinning tinsel to a normal jumper. Looked great and kids all happy, without having a jumper in cupboard that’s barely worn again.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 10/12/2020 13:30

Absolutely fine. I've seen far more 'obviously PJs' stuff, than that.

LindaEllen · 10/12/2020 13:36

That will be absolutely fine, with a pair of tights :).

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/12/2020 13:37

That doesn’t look like a nightdress at all. And at least she’ll be a bit more in the spirit than my DD who, on Christmas jumper day, wears a black sweatshirt with the words ‘This is a festive jumper’ on the front (she is 18 though) 😂

Bikingbear · 10/12/2020 13:37

I'd wear it with leggings, make it look like a tunic long top rather than a dress.
But actually it's fine, doesn't look overly nightie to me.

I remember picking up DS from nursery on one of the few occasions I didn't do drop off "Why is he wearing a pj top". Yip DH put it on him and nursery never noticed either.

EmbarrassingMama · 10/12/2020 13:38

It's cute! No-one will notice (just don't tell DD!). It's lovely :)

Barmyfarmy · 10/12/2020 13:39

That looks fine OP, in fact I'd quite like one in adult size!

helloxhristmas · 10/12/2020 13:40

It's absolutely fine!

cherrybunx0 · 10/12/2020 13:41

OP I own loads of jumper dress' and apart from the socks and slogan (and obviously the age!) that does not look too dissimilar.

I would never know that was supposed to be a nightie and not just a novelty Christmas dress!

Nonamesavail · 10/12/2020 13:42

Mines worn a pj top today!

Bin85 · 10/12/2020 13:42

That's absolutely fine

ktp100 · 10/12/2020 13:42

Absolutely fine for a 7 year old - love it!!

Crisis averted, OP!

jessstan1 · 10/12/2020 13:44

It's lovely! Nobody will notice.
