Most Britons will be barred from visiting EU countries from January 1 when pandemic safety rules that allow free travel within the bloc stop applying to the UK.

The end of the Brexit transition period means that the UK will be subject to a system that only allows non-essential travel from a handful of non-EU countries with low coronavirus infection rates, the European Commission said.

EU member states have shied away from overriding a recommendation to stop the entry of travellers from countries such as the US, which are not on the list of “safe” third nations. Only eight of the countries with very low coronavirus infection rates are on the list.

And Brexit just keeps on delivering.

The quarantine rules apply now for return from almost all EU countries. So until the vaccine is largely rolled out, what difference will it make to most people?

At the same time that Spanish government have launched a massive advertising campaign to encourage visiting.

Good - less bringing more coronavirus in during coronavirus then.

Quarantine rules are quarantine rules. We are a third country. Deal with it.
In Ireland, people have been asked not to come home.
This is Covid not Brexit.

We're in the middle of a COVID spike so this is only sensible. With any luck things will be better for the summer - but of course given our wonderful government's record on managing the pandemic, who knows?
