Harry Potter plot holes

I know that there are probably entire sites devoted to this, but I’ve just finished reading The Deathly Halows with my DD, and I need answers.

  1. Narcissa Malloy. Why did she pretend Harry was dead? The book says because she realised the only way she would get into Hogwarts to find Draco is as part of the conquering army, but surely that would be the case whether he was dead or just pretending to be dead?
  1. Marvolo Gaunt’s ring. It had the resurrection stone in it, right? Which Dumbledore then put into the snitch for Harry (after it had cursed him) Did Voldemort know it was the resurrection stone or was it just a family ring? How did he get it in the first place? And if it was actually family, then that would make the Gaunts descended from the Peverells, which would make Harry and Voldemort related (since Harry has the invisibility cloak through descent from Ignotus Peverell)?

1- I think she just wanted it over
2- no he didn't know. Both Harry and Voldemort are descended from the peverills, they are related.

He probably stole it from marvolo gaunt

She didn’t care anymore she just wanted her son to be safe. Harry was saved by a mother’s love more than once.

Yes most wizard families are related,
It does say that in the book. Harry was descended from the Peveralls

  1. In order for Voldemort to sweep into Hogwarts with a conquering army, he had to believe he had won. So she told him Harry was dead, even though she knew he wasn’t.
  1. There’s no indication that Voldemort knew it was the resurrection stone, no. Surely he’d have used it to his advantage if so? So just a family heirloom as far as he was concerned. And I don’t think the Gaunts having it automatically meant they were descended from the Peverells - maybe it just changed hands over the centuries like the Elder Wand did?

1). Narcissi realised that if Voldemort had not killed Harry then the death eaters were destined to lose.
2) Marvellous Gaunt was descended from the Peverells, and knew the ring was special but not really why. Voldemort did not know about Hallows: he was only interested in Horcruxes until he kidnapped Olivander and asked him how he could beat Harry's wand. Olivander told him about the Elder wand.

  1. The Malfoys had been in disgrace with Voldemort. Lucius had been in prison following the chamber of prophecies incident, then had to donate his wand to Voldemort, not really such an honour when it reduces you to squib/ muggle/ house elf status, so the Malfoys had rather lost their appetite for the cause. Plus they genuinely loved Draco, so it was worth Narcissa lying to get close to the school to get back with Draco whom she knew from the previous year that Voldemort would have no qualms about sacricing or losing.
In a way it's an echo of the love that Harry's mum had when she gave her love to save Harry; Narcissa's love overrides her cause.

  2. Like Harry, Tom Riddle's background raised by muggles meant he had no knowledge of wizarding fairytales/ lore, nor did he have any appetite to find out. Like the charm where Harry's mother protected him, there was a lot of magic that Voldemort was ignorant of and did not value (the Death Eaters also overlooked the laws of house elf magic that allowed Dobby to rescue Harry & co from the cellar)
The strict pureblood families were inbred and the last Gaunts, mad and ill-educated. Riddle met Morfin briefly before murdering him, and the history of the resurrection stone was lost by Marvolo and Morfin.
Yes Harry and Tom Riddle would be very distant cousins, but most pureblood lines were interlinked (most noble House of Black: The Order of the Pheonix)
