How many fairy lights do you put on your 6 foot tree?

I have a 6.5 foot tree. Is 200 lights and 100 baubles enough? Or should I put in an extra 300 lights.

My tree is about 9ft and I think we have 1000 lights on it. Will double check the box tomorrow. I like the lights to be woven all in the tree not just on the outside.

Thanks @ramblingsonthego I'll definitely keep that in mind for next year. I hate spindly trees too Xmas Smile

FortunesFave · 10/12/2020 02:30

That tree is not very, very full Figment THIS tree is very, very full. Yours is gorgeous but I'd say that's an average amount on there.

There is an online calculator OP if you Google it. It told me, depending on the look I chose, how many lights and baubles to put on it

Jobsharenightmare · 10/12/2020 04:49

For the height of the tree i have. I don't like mine as lit up as some of these.

ChasingRainbows19 · 10/12/2020 04:55

I think it’s maybe 500? Ours is a 6ft tree. Enough to do double layers on the lower thicker branches: we have plenty of light in the tree. No idea about baubles but need more bigger ones! See through/clear plastic and Metallic also reflect the light!

UncomfortableSilence · 10/12/2020 05:10

800 on my 7ft, could probably have more but couldn't find warm white anywhere this year which I prefer to ice white.

I do have other fairy lights in the room too so overall it creates a lovely warm glow.

CraazyCatLady Your tree is lovely.

Figmentofimagination · 10/12/2020 10:13

Fortunes - thankyou! And you are right, that tree has a lot more decorations than mine. 😁

sashagabadon · 10/12/2020 10:16

I have a 5ft tree and 600 lights. It is perfect amount. No decorations this year though, I have gone minimalist, lights and fairy on top only Grin

timeforawine · 10/12/2020 10:18

I have 1000 compact lights on a 7ft tree

Shmithecat2 · 10/12/2020 10:21

My 5ft tree is pre lit with 200, and I added another 360. Perfect! Until the 360 stopped bloody working 2 days in. I cannot be arsed to take the decs off and remove/replace them, so there's just 200 now 🙄. Still looks quite pretty though.

timeforawine · 10/12/2020 10:24
@ramblingsonthego your tree is gorgeous s. Do you mind me asking where you got it?
I bought a £50, 6ft tree from M&S this year that looked nicer on the ad than it does in person. I'd love one like yours.
B&Q have some nice premium ones, i got mine 15 years ago and only now am i getting a new one as it's losing bits

SoupDragon · 10/12/2020 10:24

250 plus lots of glittery reflective decorations.

We got warm white ones from Tesco this year, DH said they were selling quickly though.
UncomfortableSilence · 10/12/2020 11:04

Just got back from Tesco, it looked like it had been ransacked!

Time I'll have a look at those, thanks Smile

FenellaMaxwell · 10/12/2020 11:19

We have about 1000 and maybe 200 baubles? (Please excuse dressing up box in background!)

CraazyCatLady · 10/12/2020 12:43

@campion Thank you. It's just like the tree I had growing up. I love it!

happymummy12345 · 10/12/2020 20:09

We have a 6 foot tree. We have 800 lights. 400 warm white and 400 multi coloured. We start at the top and go right to the bottom, then we go back round the bottom two branches again until we get to the end of the lights. We do the same with both sets.
I like them mixed. We have a decoration on every branch as well, and lots of tinsel. I hate sparsely decorated trees. You can hardly see the branches of ours. Exactly how I like it. Full of colour and nice and bright

SaintWilfred · 10/12/2020 20:12

At least 100 per foot. 200 is better. It sounds like a crazy amount, but it really works. It allows you plenty to really get some into the core of the tree and give it depth.

For various reasons we've only got 1000 on our six foot tree and I am regretting it. It's not enough.

speakout · 11/12/2020 17:25

Each to their own.

I am sitting looking at my 7 foot high Nordman fir with 200 warm white lights.
I don;t want Blackpool illuminations, I like a subtle soft glow from my tree.
The beauty of my tree is in the wood, the foliage, the dense branches.

Anyone who suggests there is a "correct" number of lights on a tree is bonkers.

AppleKatie · 11/12/2020 18:19

@speakout I agree, thank goodness for you, I thought it was just me!

crimsonlake · 11/12/2020 18:54

You ban never have too many lights on the tree, I hae just bought an extra set just incase....

midinthenight · 11/12/2020 18:55

240 but I've decided it's not enough. Next year I'll go for more but not more than 600.
