I’ve just read Troy by Stephen Fry and I’m on a bit of a Troy kick. I’ve brought Song of Achilles and The Silence Of The Girls. Which one would he best to read next? Or something completely different?

I liked Silence of the Girls better, but they're both good...but not as good as the original! I loved the Fitzgerald translation but I hear Lattimore is good too.

If you are on a Troy kick, I can heartily recommend the Mary Renault books - my favourites are the King must Die and it's sequel the bull from the sea, the mask of apollo, and the last of the wine. The alexander ones are great too.

The Silence of the Girls is quite a hard read. I haven't read either Stephen Fry's Troy or the Song of Achilles, but I assume Troy is retelling the Iliad? So not too traumatic?

I haven’t read the Song of Achilles, but I really loved The Silence of the Girls.
