Hi! I’m currently trying to get a job as a HCA in the hospital, it’s a job I really want to do, but mostly what I want to do is work on maternity wards! Just wondering if anyone’s a HCA who can tell me more information about this? Is it possible to work on maternity wards as band 2 HCA? Thankyou everyone! :))

Have a look on the NHS Jobs website - you can look in your area and see what qualifications or experience are needed in the Person Spec part of the Job Description. Many hospitals are using the Apprenticeship schemes now - if you see one with and Band 2 pay band don't let it put you off as it means there's training attached to the post and it's a good way in.

You can certainly work on a maternity ward as a HCA, almost every clinical area needs HCAs. As ariana1 said, NHS jobs or the website for your local trusts will post vacancies. Maybe try for the nurse bank to give you a feel for different areas too? Good luck OP

Thankyou for replying!! I'm 21 with a 2 year old so it difficult to be able to go to uni or get something what is full time/part time so bank would really be idea for me, ever since I had my daughter I've wanted to work on a maternity ward! Of course I understand it's not a midwife but working along side them and helping new mums and babies seems so rewarding and I'll learn so much, I'm also excited to be going on all sorts of different wards to learn so much!! Thankyou for letting me know this information as I was unsure if it was possible, I thought I may have had to apply for a different position to be on a maternity ward but this is great news Thankyou again!! :)
