Parcel incorrectly delivered - I have Covid

It's a small parcel, pushed through the letter box by the postman, but it should have gone next door.

I have Covid and the rest of the house is isolating.

It looks like an ebay purchase.

So do I send someone round with it? They can put it through the door without seeing anyone but we're not supposed to leave the house and will have touched it.

Or wait until my isolation is over? Still a week to go and they'll be expecting it.

I don't have a phone number or any other means to contact them.

i wold just wait- post has been delayed all over the country i didnt get something i was waiting for for 2 weks if they want to complain they can take it up with royal mail

jambeforeclottedcream · 09/12/2020 19:06

I'd let the postman know tomorrow by leaving a note or speak to them through the letter box whilst wearing a mask

HerRoyalNotness · 09/12/2020 19:09

Why can’t you put on a mask, wash your hands, pickup parcel and push it through their letter box? Or Chuck it over the back fence and pretend Hermes delivered it

FairTheeWell · 09/12/2020 19:21

Honeslty Id just leave it a week. Its not worth dropping it over, I personally wouldnt be particularly happy about someone dropping it round to my house.

Or see if you can find them on SM

WeatherwaxOn · 09/12/2020 20:01

This is where social media is your friend. Royal Mail are on twitter and seem to be very responsive to issues of misdelivery, etc.
Message them and explain and see what they suggest. I'm sure they can contact the neighbour and let the neighbour decide what they want to do.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 09/12/2020 20:04

Put a note on your door which says "POSTMAN! You delivered a parcel to us which should have gone next door. We have covid so cannot give it to them. Please tell them we have it and I have put it out the back in a plastic box. They can get it out in 48 hours"
Or something similar.

Meepmeeep · 09/12/2020 20:05

You have their parcel so therefore know their name. Can you try and find them on social media and send them a message?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 09/12/2020 20:05

Or if you're worried someone else would come and take it if they read the note then just ask the postman to tell them you will take it round in a week or whenever you're allowed out.

Pootles34 · 09/12/2020 20:07

I've not been particularly strict about the rules but I can't believe people are suggesting you take it round! We even quarantined our milk bottles (old fashioned ones) when we had it!

Note for the postie, or asking someone to put a note through their door apologising is surely only way.

Lindy2 · 09/12/2020 20:13

I wouldn't want a parcel delivered to me from a household that's infectious with Covid. In fact I'd be furious and very alarmed if someone even just put it through my door.

You need to keep completely isolated. That's more important than a quick parcel delivery.

Wait until you have completed your isolation. Wipe the parcel down with Detol wipes and then pop it through your neighbours door with a note explaining the delay.

72 hrs decontamination - in a box sealed outside note on top of when put in and when ok to get out. postie puts note in door after you phone the office
