How cold/warm is your house?

Just taken the temp of ours and it's 11 degrees in our living room, that's with the heating being on for an hour this morning.

Brrrrr.

What is everyone else at?

BefuddledPerson · 08/12/2020 21:45

Generally warm, much warmer upstairs so in winter we tend to vacate the lounge and sit in bedrooms like students Grin

BlimeyO · 09/12/2020 06:37

Our rented place has a single glazed extension, which includes the kitchen and dining room, both of which have cold stone tiles. At the moment it’s around 10 degrees inside that part of the house.
I bought a jute rug from IKEA for the dining room. It’s great at taking away the chill from the tiles. I’m looking at mud trapping rugs for the kitchen too.
I’ve also ordered Perspex which I’ll stick over the windows... hopefully that will keep some of the chill and draught out 🤞 and we can save money on heating bills 🤞

fucknuckle · 09/12/2020 09:59

@BlimeyO fingers crossed for both of us then! here’s hoping...

BlimeyO · 09/12/2020 10:05

@fucknuckle, yes I hope the Perspex does the job. I thought about window film, some colleagues recommended it, but was worried it could impact visibility. Interested to know if that is your experience if you go ahead with it.

pastandpresent · 09/12/2020 10:22

We have a very cold house. Upstairs aren't that bad, but as soon as I turn the heating off, it goes so cold down stairs. The heating has been on since 6 till 9, it was set to 23 deg. Now hour later it's 20 deg. I feel guilty to turn the heating on during the day when I'm on my own, so I tend to carry hot water bottle, until 4, when the heating will be back on again.

praepondero · 09/12/2020 10:30

Fucking freezing, unless one is in the vicinity of one of the wood-burners or radiators. Sad
Although much prefer it to over-heated spaces.
Ours is one of those draughty, rambling houses everyone here complains about had they had the misfortune to be lured into one as unsuspecting house guest.

roarfeckingroarr · 09/12/2020 10:32

20 degrees. We have a baby so it's warmer than I would like.

TheTeenageYears · 09/12/2020 10:51

All electric heating but not storage heaters and have Economy 10 so try to stick to only having heating on during low rate hours. Have the hive set to 20 between 3 and 5am and think it might just about reach 20 in the 2 hours. At 6.30am this morning the temperature was 18.7 and at 9.30am 17.3 so hit boost at 21 for an hour and it's now 19.7. I think I'm going to try not having on from 3-5am tomorrow and see what difference it makes to the temperature at 9.30am. It's a very old terrace cottage - double glazed.

LadyCatStark · 09/12/2020 11:27

20.5 degrees according to the thermostat in the living room but I’m WFH in the dining room and it feels a bit chilly in here, probably due to the patio doors.

Caramel81 · 09/12/2020 11:33

The thermostat says 17 degrees (heating isn’t on). I’m going to put it on now to 19 degrees as feel chilly

ImNotMeImSomeoneElse · 09/12/2020 13:20

About 15°C

My heating is a pita. It switches itself off after a short time, so I only bother if I'm feeling really cold. Otherwise I layer up. Bought myself an oodie for Xmas, which I think will come in handy! It has arrived but I haven't used it yet.

ImNotMeImSomeoneElse · 09/12/2020 13:23

As an aside, that might seem cold, but I would much rather that than a house at 23°C +. That would only be comfortable with windows open and a through draught!

BiscuitDrama · 09/12/2020 13:27

Jeez, OP, is your heating actually doing anything at all?

Ours is 20 Blush

fucknuckle · 09/12/2020 14:19

@BlimeyO just to say that my neighbour has the film that you stick to the glass and altho it’s always toasty in there she does still have condensation.

if you do have issues i would recommend a window vac - mine is my trusty sidekick at the moment.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 09/12/2020 14:23

20 degrees.

If you ask me right now , bloody freezing and I have two t shirts , a jumper and a throw on me.

If you ask DP (who granted is currently living it up in a hotel for work with full room temp control) always boiling.

If you ask me after going outside to pick up DC just right , ten minutes later bloody freezing.

Ds1 in the mornings ....he is going to be an ice block it's so cold

Ds2 at any time....wooohooo it's the tropics I don't need clothes

The dog.....obviously freezing at any time ...must have permanent cuddles for body heat.

Temperature is a contentious issue in this house Grin

TwoZeroTwoZero · 09/12/2020 14:27

Usually between 13°C and 17°C. It doesn't feel cold, especially when wearing thermals underneath PJs. I hate going to other people's houses when they're heated to almost tropical temperatures because it feels so stuffy and dry.

laudemio · 09/12/2020 18:40

@fucknuckle you can hire industrial strength dehumidifiers- very noisy but worth it for a few days to get on top of the condensation then mange it with heat and ventilation

Changi · 09/12/2020 21:23

We have metal framed single glazed windows and no condensation on them.

I'm wondering where all the moisture goes.

cracracatlady · 09/12/2020 21:25

Mine is set to 23 between 5am and 9pm. I’m never up before it turns on so no idea how low it drops overnight. I am constantly cold

MyUsernames · 09/12/2020 21:27

23° because that's what it's set too, and it has been since September. I am not being cold in my own home.Grin

KatharinaRosalie · 09/12/2020 21:42

Of course you need to buy more oil if you actually use your heating, but 11 is not healthy. So unless you are totally broke, why wouldn't you put your heating on?
23-24 here, I hate to be cold. We have a very efficient heat pump so it costs almost nothing.

LadyJaye · 09/12/2020 21:44

Try to keep it around 16/17.

Sometimes I like to whack it up to 21 and put on a bikini, as a treat (am Scottish).

Tangledtresses · 09/12/2020 21:47

Here's what I do
Set the boiler output to fairly lowish so when it comes on it's not pumping extreme heat!
Set thermostat control to 19.5

And have the heating on 6-9 and then 4 - 11 pm

It's just means that the when the boiler fires up it's not heating to extremes and quietly chugs away at a nice temp
Not burning your nostrils fire of hell

Roominmyhouse · 09/12/2020 21:48

We are experimenting with leaving the heating on all the time to see if it costs more. We tend to have the thermostat set between 18 and 20 and then a night turn it down to 16.

Tangledtresses · 09/12/2020 21:49

So boiler output us set to 69 degrees

Thermostat set to 19.5 degrees
