Thought I’d set this up as we don’t seem to have one. Please delete if we do and I’ve missed it.

“Adequate” really isn’t very reassuring, is it...?

Teaistheanswer · 19/12/2020 20:24

Hello all Smile
Just looked at the updated guidance (I am in tier 4) and the link for us cev.....hasn't been updated, shocker Angry
So reassuring to know that we have stuck it out all week in schools not allowed to shut amid a more infectious version of this bloody virus!

Teaistheanswer · 19/12/2020 20:36

Routed about a bit and the advice re work seems to be the same as the November lockdown so wonder if another email is on the wayHmm

Do people who have recently been diagnosed with an illness receive a letter/email or would they need to contact their healthcare team?

I know will there be shielded measures again
Teaistheanswer · 19/12/2020 21:37

Hello @user529112 it's been a bit hit and miss since the start with letters/emails so probably best to contact your health professional if you're unsure.

Begonias · 19/12/2020 21:42

I've just seen this thread, there's a strong possibility we will be sheilding again come January. It's a never ending cycle. Sheilding then go to work for 6 weeks sheilding again back to work. I could just burst into tears.

I had my vaccine on Tuesday and 2nd one is due on the 5th Jan (NHS frontline) my thinking was hopefully I'll have some antibodies and won't need sheilding. I don't think I could cope with another round of shielding I'm already on antidepressants. Sorry for the moan 😢

Egghead68 · 19/12/2020 22:00

It’s grim isn’t it, @Begonias.

@Egghead68 2020 is like a recurring nightmare, just keeps giving you a tiny break to breath then scares you witless again.

MarieVanGoethem · 19/12/2020 23:26

@Teaistheanswer
I’m shocked, shocked I tell you... or no, wait, totally the opposite. The actual literal Muppets could do a sight better than the metaphorical ones running things. (And again, I’m going to pitch letting the various Politicats run things. Because they couldn’t do worse. And are adorbs.)

@user529112
I think you can still register yourself as CEV via the site they set up in March - that’ll ensure you’re on the list as you should be if there’s any confusion over whether it’s primary or secondary care who’re adding you. I think they now update The List on something like a weekly basis. If you register yourself that’ll let you get email notifications if your hospital/GP surgery don’t hold a [current] email for you - emails appear MUCH faster than letters do IME. (Also, while you’re of course very welcome here, I’m sorry you’ve had the need to find us, as it were.)

@Begonias
I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time. Hopefully they’ll be able to make the determination that the vaccine is, in fact, effective against the new strain. It must be incredibly frustrating (for you & @Egghead68 both) feel shut away from doing frontline NHS work.

Really hope 2021 will... just Play Nicely. I can make Pollyanna look a rank amateur at the Glad Game, but even I’m starting to struggle...

MarieVanGoethem · 19/12/2020 23:30

@user529112
The details on how to register as ECV are here.

I’m in tier 4, so outdoors exercise and attending medical appointments still OK, but nothing else

user529112 · 21/12/2020 13:10
Does anyone know if this applies to Wales level 4?
MarieVanGoethem · 21/12/2020 15:40

@user529112
Wales haven’t updated their guidance & info (you have to scroll down the page) since November; but their FAQs about L4 includes:

“Has shielding been reinstated?

It is not necessary for those who are in the shielding group – people who are clinically extremely vulnerable – to adopt strict shielding measures again during this period. The regulations in place act to reduce the circulation of the virus and by sticking strictly to the rules, people who are vulnerable will reduce their risk of exposure. Further reductions in risk can be achieved by:

• keeping contacts outside the household to a minimum and avoiding all situations either inside or outside where a physical distance of 2m from those outside your household or support bubble cannot be maintained
• shopping at quieter times of day and going once per week rather than every day, if you cannot do this online
• washing hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water and using hand sanitiser where hand washing facilities are not available
• wearing a face covering when required (unless you are exempt or have a reasonable excuse not to do so, such as because of a specific disability)
• avoiding touching surfaces that have been touched by others”

MarieVanGoethem · 21/12/2020 21:22

Just had the email saying that we’re grounded until the 18th of January even if wherever we are I, too, am enjoying the personalised letters drops out of Tier 4 below that. Super...

MarieVanGoethem · 21/12/2020 21:23

Or indeed “drops out of Tier 4 before that”.

Sometimes I can almost communicate [properly] in English. Almost.

iVampire · 22/12/2020 05:47

Try reporting in Welsh?

And my apologies - I’m sure the shielding pages used to link parallel guidance for each home nation when there were differences (I don’t think there was at the start) and I didn’t check this time before I posted

iVampire · 22/12/2020 05:48

Why do I need to repost in Welsh?
Egghead68 · 22/12/2020 20:32

Me too @MarieVanGoethem. I hadn’t spotted the 18th Jan date though.

Nope, no it doesn't. Have reported my post having re-read the letter.

QueenPaws · 22/12/2020 20:53

I've not even been back to work. My boss doesn't want me to sue or something has basically said come back when I feel safe to do so and if that's after the vaccine then so be it. Luckily I can WFH as effectively as when I'm at work
Still haven't been out and about or shopping. Ran out of washing up liquid and didn't get any in my delivery (no sub apparently!) so thought I could mask up and run into Poundland. No distancing, people 3 across in the aisles, it was like Christmas (this was a few months ago). I had a panic attack Sad for the first time in about a decade

Egghead68 · 22/12/2020 21:36

Me neither @QueenPaws. Let’s hope the vaccine works and the end is in sight...
