Thought I’d set this up as we don’t seem to have one. Please delete if we do and I’ve missed it.

We are always an after thought.

Begonias · 24/02/2021 13:52

Nothing was mentioned about sheilding on Monday, on the letter it did say that they would let us know by mid March whether sheilding is extended or not. I really am hoping this is the last lockdown

Anewuser · 24/02/2021 16:54

Since the letter says to shield until 31st March, I think that'll be the end. Would almost tie in with furlough and letting us out for Easter.

I think so too, unless - god forbid - there is another nasty strain that the current vaccines can’t tackle.

I got the impression from some of the wording that that is a worst case scenario that they are bearing in mind.

Oof. Do wish my second jab would hurry itself up. Ditto my appointment in IR to either unblock or replace my port. (At this point fear unlikely they’ll manage the former; & v frustrating if they have to do latter because it’s been left - I’m a bit tricky to site the things on apparently, & given vascular would like to stick with them over trying for an AV fistula [& I’m with them there] I rather need them to last as long as possible. Just over a year is very much not that Hmm ) But let’s face it that’s really not something to whinge about.

Alors, on a brighter note: what is everyone planning for the start of April [or] when[ever it is] we are released into the wild? I’m still planning my crazy-exciting wee trips to the park at the top of my road. If I can sneak a turn on the swings I’m absolutely going to do so, too, drat it all Grin

Hello @RickiTarr, glad you found us. Sorry your thread went a bit sideways - think a lot of people are ready to jump on someone whatever they say at the moment, pretty much. Or rather, they do that thing of not actually reading what you’ve said, just go off on what they assume you’ll have said from your thread title. I once started a thread about visitors on a hospital ward outside hours. Specifying I meant only that ward, right then, no end of life care, nobody coming in to provide additional care (etc etc) - literally just people not clearing out when visiting time ended. As in, not until 2300/0000 (visiting = 1400-2000). I got replies about basically everything bar the situation I’d very specifically set out; & was accused of attacking nurses & the NHS despite having defended both in my OP because apparently I should’ve realised that other people would take the opportunity to have a go & their doing so was, naturally, My Fault. So yes, much sympathy-empathy for that thing of people just replying to, well, an imaginary post, pretty much.

@Outnumberedwoman
Hope things have calmed down for you now. Schools are still off for St Patrick’s Day as usual, aren’t they even with the parades cancelled? (Actually, have Derry & Strabane given in & cancelled yet? When everyone else did in January they were saying they’d decide closer to the time as they thought/hoped they’d be able to do them safely somehow. By magic, presumably...) I know some places are doing online events - I hope you’ll be able to find some things for your boys if you’re still needing to crush the idea of them missing out while you do this last wee bit of keeping everyone safe.

TOWGA · 02/03/2021 11:44

I haven't had my vaccine yet with being pregnant, I have a consultant appointment with my heart specialist mid March, so going to see what they say, if I have to go back to work after 1st April, I think I am going to have the vaccine, as I will 29 weeks and work in retail!

MarieVanGoethem · 02/03/2021 12:40

@TOWGA
I’ll keep my fingers crossed & hold my thumbs for you that your consultant comes up with A Plan that ensures you feel as safe & supported as possible.

user598120 · 05/03/2021 20:42

Does anyone know if you have had both vaccines can you return to work before shielding ends?

Anewuser · 05/03/2021 22:16

Shielding isn't compulsory so if you feel it's safe to return to work at any time that's your choice.

user598120 · 06/03/2021 07:32

@Anewuser
My manager has told me I have to return now but I would feel safer once shielding ends

Begonias · 06/03/2021 08:25

I've been told that I need to return to work when shielding ends. I've had both doses so I'm hoping I'll have antibodies.

goingtotown · 06/03/2021 08:47

MIL is 72 very active with no underlying health problems. She works in a large supermarket, they furloughed her in January due to her age.

She had the first jab in February, the second one will be April.
Does anyone know if it’s safe for her to return to work after the jab or should she wait a few weeks.Her manager says it’s her decision.

MarieVanGoethem · 06/03/2021 14:51

@user598120
The advice (in England, at least, but am assuming on this one the 4 nations are in agreement) is to continue shielding even after you’ve had both doses - can you send your manager a copy of your shielding letter with that bit highlighted/direct them to government guidelines for people who’re shielding (they state that even if you’ve had both jabs you should continue to shield)?

@goingtotown
It takes about 2 weeks from the second injection to build the lasting protection that said second dose gives. If she’s being given the choice, waiting seems sensible - being as well-protected as possible makes sense, surely?

MarieVanGoethem · 10/03/2021 21:35

Any have any advice on doing a COVID swab thingy? IR have had a slight panic because, er, should’ve seen me over a month ago (& that’s allowing for covid, yes) so I’ve now my preadmission appointment booked + a COVID swab (involving a courier) + the actual trip to IR later this month.

Poking myself in the brain with a stick (or indeed anything else) has always been one of those activities I’ve tried to avoid. And I’m very VERY prone to nosebleeds. So I can see this Not Going Well, frankly...

Outnumberedwoman · 12/03/2021 00:31

I got my 1st jab today! Woohoo!!

Teaistheanswer · 12/03/2021 08:09

Thats great news @outnumberedwoman!

Sorry @marievangoethem I've managed to dodge the dreaded nose poking tests so far but my DH has done a few and he said just take it gently, bit uncomfortable but he gets nosebleeds and was fine each time. He used a mirror which he said helped. Made his eyes water a bit but all was fine. Good luck, hope that helps.

MarieVanGoethem · 12/03/2021 10:10

That’s fab news @Outnumberedwoman Grin

Thanks @Teaistheanswer Smile I’ve watched the online how-to video thing a couple oh times & hopefully will manage not to stuff it up...

TOWGA · 16/03/2021 09:43

So I went to see my consultant yesterday, apparently, I'm not at more risk of coronavirus, than another pregnant women. My heart condition isn't serious enough Hmm

Basically should have never been shielding. So now I need to speak to work about the fact I can go back to work at 27 weeks pregnant. Though I'm debating waiting till this shielding letter runs out. It was a mistake basically, but it's left me feeling rather nervous, about the fact I can go back into the world as normal! Help?!

TOWGA · 16/03/2021 10:02

Also I wasnt to know it was a mistake!

MarieVanGoethem · 16/03/2021 19:02

I mean, that’s fantastic news @TOWGA, but must still make for some somewhat wobbly feelings. I don’t think giving yourself some time to adjust to what is actually good news but is quite overwhelming is a bad idea if you’ll be able to. Not inspiring they messed up; but better they messed up the wrong way, stressful as shielding stuff is?

I’ve now booked my second vaccination: it’s next Friday, so by early April I shall be roaming the streets of SE London once more. Well, something like that...

Teaistheanswer · 17/03/2021 14:19

Good news about your second dose @marievangoethem. Did they contact you to ask you to book it? I am getting a bit jittery about my second dose as not heard anything yet but my DH was able to book both his doses at the same time when his age group came up. I wonder if we'll just be chucked back out there with a single dose after 31st march as my 12 weeks doesn't run out till April Confused

FlatteredFool · 17/03/2021 18:04

Was there anything in the press conference today about shielding? I didn't get to watch it but expect we've been forgotten again
