Have you contacted the emergency services recently?

Just wondering as I'd like to put my mind at rest.

Since the first lockdown I've been having recurring dreams where I'm in danger and cannot get help. I dream I am calling 999 but the line is busy and I am put on hold.

So just for reassurance, if you have called 999 for any reason since March, did you get straight through?

Yes I did, twice. Both for an ambulance.

Please don’t worry

ChessieFL · 08/12/2020 07:33

Yes, twice. Both times got through straight away and ambulance also turned up quickly (10-20 minutes) even though it wasn’t a life or death situation.

ChessieFL · 08/12/2020 07:35

Although thinking about it the first one wasn’t 999, we went through NHS direct and they sent an ambulance out. The second one was 999 though.

MuchTooTired · 08/12/2020 07:36

I called 999 within the last couple of months and got straight through. I’ve also called the non emergency police number and was seriously surprised to get pretty much straight through too!

I’m sorry you’ve been having this recurring dream.

Robinelf · 08/12/2020 08:08

I have those dreams whenever I am going through an anxious phase in life, sometimes the phone just doesn’t work though or I keep pressing the wrong numbers...

However, I call the emergency services fairly often because of my job and the phone is still always answered straight away Smile (although ambulances seem to be taking a little longer since March)

I also have that dream, with some variation, but always fundamentally trying to call 999 and it not ‘working’ one way or another. I have dreamed it for years. For me it’s very clearly an anxiety dream, and sometimes that anxiety persists on waking.

The few times I have called 999 for both police and ambulance have been nothing at all like my dreams Smile

Once for an ambulance, straight through but no ambulances available.
Once for a burst pipe on a road for police, straight through, someone was sent out straight away.
Non emergency 101 police for local drug addicts fighting on the main road. Straight through and police were there within minutes.

Never phoned emergency services before but this is all in the last 6 months.

I pocket dialled the emergency services on my mobile the other day. I was so embarrassed when I realised what I’d done, but the responder was very understanding.

I was put on hold a few years ago. Felt like forever at the time, but was probably less than a minute. Previous times I got straight through. Even if you are put on hold, it shouldn't be long.

Straight through a few weeks ago
