Private rental advice

Advice wanted. We moved from one country, where we are home owners to another -Scotland where we are in a private rental. We have tenants in the property we own and always make effort to keep a good relationship with them.

We are having the opposite experience with the owners of our rental house in Scotland. We deal with an agent here, but she isn’t having any joy communicating with the owners. Our washing machine broke a week ago. They sent someone out to look at it after 5 days who confirmed it was broken, but we still haven’t heard what is going to happen or had any information at all.

Last night the downstairs neighbour came to talk to us. Our shower is leaking into their bedroom- it’s happened twice before apparently with previous tenants. We sent sms, emails, calls to the agent ... eventually the agent said the owners were aware and someone would be in touch.

So now I live in an apartment where I can’t wash clothes or shower. I have three kids.

Tomorrow I’m going to call citizens advice, but I’m bloody furious and want to know if this is a normal situation for renters / or if this is as bad as I think. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of available properties in the area or I would leave.

Thanks for letting me offload and I’d appreciate any advice.
