Suit for a teen boy, help!

My ex, the DCs dad, died last week, and DS has no clothing suitable for a funeral.

He's at the sizes in between Boys and Mens in most shops, complicated by the fact he's skinny, with short legs and a long torso.

I'd be grateful if anyone can point me in the direction of a basic suit, or maybe separate trousers and jacket given his proportions, that aren't going to:
a) break the bank and
b) can be used for other occasions (like prom, interviews, etc). So something like navy or brown.

He's a size 28 waist, inside leg 29/30 inches (73-75 cm)
Overall height is 5'7" (he's never going to be tall), or 168 cm

I'm sure I can sort a shirt and tie out, but I've been googling and don't seem to be able to find anything for trousers/jacket right now.

School uniform a non-starter. He left school in the summer and the clothing has been passed on already. College has so far not required any smart clothing...

We got a suit for our son last year in Slaters menswear. He is about the same size.

BackforGood · 07/12/2020 23:36

I wouldn't pay out a lot.
He will just grow before prom, or any other occasion.

Matalan is worth a look.

Sorry for your / his loss.

I got one for my DS when he was a similar size from TopMan. They do a ‘skinny fit’ range and are reasonably priced.

I got DS a black school blazer from Asda for a last minute funeral, plus black trousers. He is age 16 and sized appropriately, maybe this is an option? It was much less expensive than a proper suit

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/12/2020 23:57

Try next for trousers, I wouldn't worry about a suit jacket for a young lad, shirt tie and even a jumper or a jacket he could wear again like a rain jacket or cheap puffa type zip up would be more practical. Funerals are generally not as formal as they used to be, and no one expects a young lad to necessarily have a suit.

Sorry for your loss

I agree with a pp - suit not essential, but we got one for my ms in primark - skinny fit and didn’t break the bank

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/12/2020 00:06

Even for interviews, a suit isn't really essential for a young man. Smart is fine.

Next definitely have the right size trousers but I can't link. They do all the different fits, waist sizes and lengths and are £18.

If you do want a suit for all occasions, you can't go wrong with grey tbh

Next is very good for tall skinny boys but if you are ordering online items are taking a lot longer than usual to arrive atm.

BitOfANameChange · 08/12/2020 08:45

Thank you for the replies, I'd got bogged down in funeral stuff last night and letting people know.

I'll take a look at all of these options, and keep my fingers crossed we can get something. It's scheduled for 21st Dec, so a little time available.

I have two tall skinny boys , I would second Next . Got all ds sixth form suits there, the only thing is if you want the longer trousers they don’t always have them in store , they will usually get them in 24 hours.

hotchocdrinker · 08/12/2020 09:28

Another recommendation for Next here.

Thanks for all the recommendations.
