Careers for quiet team players please

My son is 15. He is highly academic but his idea of happiness is when his not-very-good football team wins, which does not happen very often at all. He is a defender in the team.
He is a bit gullible - not the sharpest socially.
If you ask him about school he just says it was “alright”.
He is an idealist (no palm oil, that sort of thing)
He has an encyclopaedic memory, especially for football history

He is in year 10 and says he would like to be the doctor for a football team!

Any career ideas welcome for such a character! Thank you.

Biomedical science?
Look at some of the jobs on offer within the highly competitive NHS Scientist Training Programme (anyone with a science degree can apply) for ideas? I mean there's a lot of scientists behind the scenes using technology to accurately diagnose and treat serious disease. I find it fascinating.

Why not a doctor for a football team, if that's what he wants to do? He could study medicine or go down the sports science route.

Thank you those are good points

Pharma or medical devices might suit. Evidence communications, evidence analysis, compliance, regulatory. They all work cross functionally but few A-types

Strategic planning also in any industry - lots of quiet thinking, needs to bring lots of stakeholders together.

He would be well suited to some ares of accountancy - tax in particular can be technical and a good memory makes a big difference. So long as he can communicate when he has something to say he would be ok. Helpfully there are often standard ways to communicate which helps the less outgoing of us.

I came on to say accountant too.

Erm.....the doctor for a football team?

Joditaylorfan · 07/12/2020 22:11

Nursing?

JustaPatioWithAspirations · 08/12/2020 09:28

Thank you. Re nursing/medicine, he would like the being in a team bit. It’s like being in a football team isn’t it?
But I’m not sure he’d have the bedside manner for nursing and I think he would find the relentlessness of being a junior dr unpleasant (probably because it is, unless you get to work for a football team!).

It’s weird but I could almost see him in the army. Esprit de Corp is how he copes with life

Nursing scope is huge. On a ward, definitely a team job. A research nurse has less contact with patients. A theatre nurse - all about team work!
Worth looking into.

JustaPatioWithAspirations · 09/12/2020 15:07

Thank you Jodi.

I can imagine him being just the person you want in theatre - quietly alert and concentrating.
Presumably theatre is a bit better for introverts because you get to concentrate on the job at hand whereas on a ward you are managing an infinite number of distractions?
I could imagine him being a certain kind of theatre doctor too, like an anesthetist. Something involving quiet concentration.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to post.

re accountancy, the problem is that he is young and idealistic enough to want to be part of an intrinsically worthwhile project and of course as a 15 year old you can't see how intricate stuff like tax counts for that (I can, but that's another story)
