Anyone renewed a UK passport from another country?

My 20yr old son is trying to renew his UK passport from Ireland and has had digital passport photos done for it, but the code on the photos is unacceptable for the online website. I don't understand why this is. There are far too many digits in the code but everything I google seems to suggest these photos should be perfectly acceptable.
Is taking a photo himself at home and uploading it etc the only option? This is such a painful procedure though....it will take probably 100 attempts to get it right Confused.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Its dead easy to take photos at home for passport applications

Maybe contact the place that took the photos. They should be able to help

I've had quite a few British passports done from abroad, but none in the last five years so probably not relevant for your query, but I can sympathise. generally speaking the British passport 'service' for people living abroad is just abysmal by comparison with several other countries I know of - zero help or fucks given by the authorities.
On the other hand, I did spend three hours helping someone to get an Iranian visa (I know, I know, but there was a good reason) and it took most of that time getting the professional photo to upload at the right size with the right number of pixels. So maybe the British are at an Iranian level of official non-fuck-giving for consular work?

I have renewed several passports and used a photo taken at home using my phone. Its very easy to do

I have done this very recently for myself and my DC. The trick is to get someone else to take the photo and it was taken on a very white background opposite a window so lots of light but not direct. It did take a couple of attempts and it was impossible to do by myself.

Thanks everyone, we will give that a go then and try doing them ourselves Smile .
