What stocking present do you remember best from your childhood?

When I was 4 I got a Hello Kitty compact with a comb and mirror. I don't know what happened to it but I remember it so clearly and I was hugely proud of it. I still wonder what happened to it.

I've just looked it up and found the exact one

I do remember lots of other things but that is the one that has always stood out.

One year I had a pin board shaped like a house behind my stocking. One of those things that I never knew I wanted but I loved it!

nitgel · 07/12/2020 12:04

Every year I would get a brownie diary

Busybusybust · 07/12/2020 12:05

Miniature bottles of Roses squash.

FizzyPink · 07/12/2020 12:06

I used to love those flannels that came as a little circle and then expanded when you put them in the bath

MorrisZapp · 07/12/2020 12:07

I loved getting the Brownie diary! I once got Avon Pretty Peach talc, I loved it.

One year I asked for and got a pineapple :)

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 07/12/2020 12:07

What a great thread OP! I also love your comb too!

A packet of crayola wax crayons with silver glitter in them. Xmas Smile

MorrisZapp · 07/12/2020 12:08

That weird illegal goo in a tube that you blow into permanent bubbles. If I could smell it now it would be the essence of Christmas.

WitchesSpelleas · 07/12/2020 12:08

I remember getting a set of wind-up chatter teeth!

Also a Jacob's Ladder which fascinated me for ages.

caperplips · 07/12/2020 12:12

A Monchichi monkey that was the love of my life for quite a few years! I REALLY wanted one and they were the 'sold out' item that year so I wasn't sure I would get one as my parents were telling me Santa might not be able to make enough for all the children that year.

I scanned the presents as soon as I walked into the sitting room and there was no sign of him. I said nothing but I remember feeling SO disappointed despite a pile of other amazing toys. He was down in the bottom of my stocking and I the joy I felt when I pulled him out was magical. He did not leave my hands for the rest of the day!

Another year I got a pre-filled stocking from a place similar to Hawkins Baazar and I adored it, it was totally full of 'tat' but it was the highlight of my christmas that year (that must have pleased my poor parents!) it had witched nails, rubber jammy dodger, whoopie cushion a matchbox with a trick in it....I can still see it!

housemdwaswrong · 07/12/2020 12:14

One of those picture puzzles with sliding pieces, I loved them. Also a crayola box of crayons in a posh yellow display box which I loved, and left them outside the following summer and was heartbroken when they melted :)

jollygoose · 07/12/2020 12:15

My aunt bought a beautiful shiny blue box and filled it with home made dolls clothes. She was later apologetic that she was broke and could not afford much. It was such a shame she felt that way as I just loved it and will always remember it as one of the best gifts ever.

Wejustdontknow · 07/12/2020 12:16

We didn’t have stockings when I was a child but the present from Santa was always left at the end of our bed, I will always remember my Minnie Mouse roller skates, I put them on and skated (fell) through to my parents room, they were definitely the present I remember the most from my childhood

KaptainKaveman · 07/12/2020 12:17

I'm a bit older than you lot I think!

Best stocking fillers were a pair of bright pink clackers and wonderful kaleidoscope, hours of fun and magic.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 07/12/2020 12:27

Hello @listsandbudgets - we'll move this over to Chat now. We're loving the nostalgia here btw Smile. Does anyone remember Cheeky Mouse? He had a little red house with yellow windows.

listsandbudgets · 07/12/2020 12:33

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet Thank you. I don't remember Cheeky Mouse sadly - show us a picture :)

an Avon pomander shaped like a boot!!

OwlBasket · 07/12/2020 12:37

Honestly? The thing that came immediately to mind was the satsuma and little tinfoil wrap of dried fruit and nuts that always used to be in the toe of our stockings. Instant nostalgia 🤷‍♀️

ShopTattsyrup · 07/12/2020 12:37

@MorrisZapp Oh I loved that stuff! And that intoxicating plasticky smell - you've brought back very strong scent memories that I had totally forgotten!! Is that stuff illegal now? Shock

I had a pack of scented gel pens that I remember being over the moon about! Especially the lemon/lime one. Also those magic flannel things in the shape of a flower or a dinosaur that expanded when put in water.

lucysmam · 07/12/2020 12:39

A pair of Christmas stocking earrings! I still have them & do wear them every year at some point during the run-up to Christmas.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/12/2020 12:43

April violets perfume from my Grandma. I'm not sure of the make - probably Yardley but I keep thinking Bronnley. It was in a little purple drawstring bag. I thought it was lovely. I must have been about 7.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/12/2020 12:48

I remember always getting an annual, a cracker and a tube of smarties (one of The big ones)

AdaColeman · 07/12/2020 12:59

A yoyo! I think I must have driven my parents nuts with it over the next few days! Xmas Grin
Other things I remember were wire twist puzzles, little books that you "painted" with water to reveal the colours, Chinese paper flowers that opened up when dropped into a glass of water, jumping beans, a hen that laid eggs, French knitting spool, packets of marbles were always a favourite, not forgetting the compulsory tangerine in the toe!

BendingSpoons · 07/12/2020 13:01

Chocolate coins! They tasted so much better in coin shape.

Riapia · 07/12/2020 13:04

I had a really happy childhood.
Brought up by my DM as a single parent.
I can’t remember anything about childhood Christmases except the year I got a chemistry set.
I was terrified of Santa from being very young so DM had to tell me he wasn’t real. Maybe that’s why childhood christmases have been wiped from my memory. Can’t even remember any of the food or meals
