Please recommend some good quality adult colouring books and pens

Dh cousin has LD and a lot of sensory issues and is really into colouring at the moment.

She's having a hard time with pens and paper - her parents keep buying her the berol colouring pens and normal colouring books but you know when the pens sort of snag the paper, the pen bleeds through some bits? She hates that and it's making her quite frustrated with the 'rough' feel of the pens on the paper.

Anyone know of any good combos of pens and paper? I'd quite like to get her some for Christmas but I'm lost on what are good ones to buy.

Do you have a The Works near by? They have loads of grown up colouring books in there.

They may even have the sticker by number too which is nice if a bit fiddly.

Could colouring pencils be a better answer to felt tips?

@Kpo58 we're bloody self isolating! I need something I can get delivered to her.

She doesn't like pencils she doesn't like the feel of them. Only pens.

I'll have a look at works online though, thank you for the suggestion!

Johanna Basford colouring books are wonderful. They have them on Amazon. I've got my dd the Christmas one and it's beautiful and the paper is thick and strong. Gel pens are better than felt tips for colouring.

We have the stabilo felt tips and they've never given us that berol bumpiness.

I'm a big stabilo fan xx

I’ve got the Millie Marotta colouring books - they’re fantastic and you should be able to find them on Amazon. I’d say my least favourite is Curious Creatures, but they’re all good.

I’ve got a set of Gelmushta gel pens mine was a set of 120, with a spare refill for each pen. Variety of colours plus “special effects” such as glitter, neon etc. Have attached a photo - looks like they’re currently out of stock on Amazon, but you may be able to get them elsewhere.

As a completely different idea, maybe she’d also like to try painting by numbers? I order mine from VictoriasMoon - good quality canvases and acrylic paints, have been having a lot of fun with them!

VictoriasMoon also do “diamond painting” which uses different coloured crystals rather than paints.

There are tonnes of standard canvases (example in first photo). You can also upload your own photos to be turned into canvases - I’m currently working on one of a friend’s horse which is going to be a present for her.

Oh thank you for the recommendations!

I'll speak to her mum re painting by numbers that might be a great idea.

@WankPuffins - if she does go down the painting route, probably best to buy a set of brushes. I just got a cheap set of 8 brushes from The Range. Each canvas from VictoriasMoon comes with 3 brushes, but they’re shit!

BTW, I love your username!
