HP books into a TV show should happen

Who should play who?

Highly agree. Or a marauders era tv show. In Harry Potter fandom there’s essentially already a young marauders cast list so if a new one were to happen it’s likely be a marauders series.

AFAIK, there isn’t exactly a new “cast” for a Harry Potter series as most people have tended to go towards the marauders instead given there’s already HP films and use Fanon as Canon now (for marauders are least), pretty much a lot of people agree on the casts

I've long thought this would work really well.

They could go right back to D.dore/G.wald as teens / voldemorts childhood etc.

I very much hope it does happen, perhaps for 20th anniversary of Philosopher’s Stone next year? I think we’d need a cast of unknown youngsters, anyone have a likely 11 year old?

And please can I be Mcgonagall?

They need to age them properly. It always bothered me that the potters marauders and snape were played by wayyyy older actors.

Tom Holland should be in there somewhere. Maybe he should play James?

(I love playing re-cast HP as I fucking hated the original cast, well the main trio anyway.)

I can't see anyone but David Thewlis when I picture Lupin.its ironic, and sad, that he won't even get the option to play an old future Lupin sobs at the most shocking death

The main 3 yes would need yo be cast by young unknowns. But the adults

Yes and keep peeves and all the other amazing storylines. I often wonder if I had seen the films before reading the books if I would be able to follow them

I would like the idea of a marauders or even founders era show, but loads of those actors are in their late thirties, @teaandcustardcreamsx. Eva Green is 40. Way, way too old to play the marauders from, what, age 15/16 until they died aged 21. One of the worst things about the HP films was the fact nearly all of the adults were all aged about twenty/thirty years too old!

I can't see anything happening in the next 5-10 years because of all the JKR controversy. But give it a few years and there will definitely be some sort of reboot. If it's in line with CC, possibly with a black Hermione.

I will never understand why, out of the almost endless opportunities for HP divergent franchises open after the end of the original book/films, they went for the dire, boring, and confusing "magical creatures" series....nearly anything else would have been better!

I haven't liked any of the spin off materials fantastic beasts is just meh and CC I haven't read. I got to the bit on the hogwarts express and thought NOPE

Ah meant Eva Green as Walburga Black (Sirius’ mother) @thevassal or bellatrix as she went a bit batshit towards the end of series (I think she was 50 ish—same age as Molly)

@thevassal I actually think Thewlis as Lupron looked about right - although he would have been about 34/35 his lycanthropy would have aged him.

JKR said werewolves and the stigma they face in the wizard of world was an analogy for HIV/AIDS - and certainly prior to decent anti-retroviral drugs HIV really aged people.

That doesn't make sense though because lupin doesn't look any older than any of the others! Snape, Peter p, Sirius all look to be at least in their fifties. As much as I love Alan Rickman by the last film he was 65 playing a 38year old. In their flashbacks Harry's parents should only have been about four years older than him by the last film, but were middle aged!

It also makes the tonks/lupin relationship a bit skeezy....in the books he's maybe ten, eleven years older than her whereas in the films he looks old enough to be her dad!

But then the child actors in hp look the right age (which i like, hate American tv shows where the "teens" are practically menopausal) but are in many cases terrible, terrible actors so not sure which is worse!
