Is it just me or is the Lisa and John food show really awful?

Hi,

Just that really.

It's soooo boring! They can't present and bizarrely don't have any chemistry. It's so forced and fake.

Anyone else?

It’s not one I would choose to watch.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/12/2020 12:08

Feel exactly the same. John Torode isn't my favourite chef anyway, he always looks and sounds as if he's got a cold and you are right about them together, it's like they don't even know one another.

Crepesuzettes · 05/12/2020 12:39

@JiltedJohnsJulie, exactly! The really over the top smiles and the repetitive "my way is better! No, my way is better" followed by lots of fake laughter, is just maddening.

In theory it should work quite nicely. Lisa's an actor/cook and John's a well known chef and they're married, but it's just a disaster!

It’s awful.

I like Sunday Brunch.

AliceBlueGown · 05/12/2020 12:44

It is awful and I agree Sunday Brunch is the same. I actually do not like the way he speaks to Lisa as if she needs to 'know her place in the kitchen' - also the dishes arn't particularly inspiring - guess I don't like it very muchSmile

Twinkie01 · 05/12/2020 12:44

Incredibly uncomfortable watching.

We've talked about it before and someone described it as like watching your Grandma Wanking 😂😂😂

Joun has more chemistry with Greg Wallace than Lisa!

Crepesuzettes · 05/12/2020 12:46

@blametheparents, that's no use to me today! Grin

Oh god, i can't bear to watch them

CrackersDontMatter · 05/12/2020 12:49

I was saying this myself the other day. It makes me cringe. Lisa will be making something and John is fawning "oh is that how you do it?". You're a frigging chef John.

wizzywig · 05/12/2020 12:49

See Im sort of the opposite. I feel sick at how bloody mushy and loved up they are. Uugh

Crepesuzettes · 05/12/2020 12:51

@Foxyloxy1plus1, yes, the dishes are always really boring and done to death. Today Lisa was describing the difference between smoked paprika and normal paprika, as though it was still seen as this new exotic spice!

SNAP!

Originalyellowbelly · 05/12/2020 12:52

I prefer to watch James Martin. I find the way John and Lisa speak to each other very odd, I don't dislike either of them just not together.

Cooltalkin · 05/12/2020 12:56

I like them but individually tbh.
The filming is awful , can’t see what they are doing because it is filmed behind a plant or something .
The recipes are on the basic side , and that’s ok , depends on your cooking skill to start with
But it isn’t my beloved master chef

Crepesuzettes · 05/12/2020 13:00

@wizzywig, it actually wouldn't bother me if it came across as genuine, but they look really false and awkward. It's all a bit try hard.

I remember when the show was first on and every meal they made, Lisa would look at John "adoringly" and say "shall we cook these for the kids at the weekend?...Yeah?" And it was so clearly for our benefit, like in case you forgot, we're a couple!

@cooltalkin, I don't dislike them, but the show just doesn't work for either of them.

This. I have a very high tolerance for cooking programmes. But she was always looking at him adoringly as you say. Like a puppy.

I can't actually watch it, i keep trying but always turn over.

W3dontdoduvets · 05/12/2020 13:11

Oh it’s awful. He’s so bossy. I could watch cookery shows all day but this one is cringe.

burnoutbabe · 05/12/2020 13:20

Actually over the summer I was very pleased they were on tv. We could see then together, acting naturally and not sat either ends of a long sofa. Same with eamon and Ruth. Was nice just to see normality.

JamesMoriarty · 05/12/2020 13:23

Yep! It does seem very forced and the food is boring.

Sorry!!! Grin

WankPuffins · 05/12/2020 14:03

I can't bear the pair of them.

In my own personal hell, I'm stuck in the middle of a double date with those two and holly and phill. (Jamie Oliver is cooking. And Enya is singing).

Crepesuzettes · 05/12/2020 14:40

@WankPuffins, that's quite a group! Grin

Would Jamie Oliver also be doing that really annoying eating his own food, whilst smugly pointing at it and describing, with a mouthful of food, how "insane" the flavours are?...

Yes.

And he'd get spit in it while speaking

JimandPam · 05/12/2020 15:36

Oh no, I love this!

I love these sort of home from home comfort food type shows and think they work really well together.

But I see I'm in the minority!!
