Beach resort with pretty views Europe

Not booking anything until COVID is over but want to go on holiday for a big birthday soon and don’t know where to start. Ideally we want a villa/apartment in a pretty, charming beach resort that isn’t too busy. Walking distance to a beach where we can swim (ie not dangerous currents or too rocky) and a car not essential. We LOVED Fiskardo in Kefalonia but want to go somewhere different. Any recommendations of places? (Our kids will be 11/12 ish.) Where have you had a wonderful holiday?
Thank you!

We loved Paphos in Cyprus. There’s some nice ancient history there too.

@ @JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam I went there as a teen actually but hadn’t thought of it! Thanks.

We had a fantastic holiday at Giverola Resort in Spain. We stayed in a self catered premium apartment but had use of an indoor and outdoor pool (which had a decent water slide for the Dc), sports facilities, playground, mini golf etc...
It’s not in a town, but consequently the beach is really quiet. There’s an on-site mini market with basic food and drink, about 3 restaurants and choice of bars. The resort also provided excursions - we went on a family day trip by coach to Barcelona, a glass bottom bed boat tour and then DH and DS went on another trip to watch a football match. There’s also a history trip but we didn’t manage to do that one.

Jersey?

CottonSock · 04/12/2020 18:36

San Sebastian does all those things. Plus Lisbon, but the beaches are 20 mins away.

Although the above are cities, not resorts. I like city breaks as so much to see.

Elounda in Crete - not as pretty as Fiskardo but the village of Plaka nearby is nice and the island of Spinalonga is fascinating.

Thanks - off to research all of these!

Puerto Pollensa. I realise not undiscovered as ever bugger and their dog seem to go but it's lovely and so pretty and lots to do or you could just sit by the pool with a 🍷.

Beaches fab and no current.

Plus dead easy to get there so you arrive in a non knackered state.

I also really like Antibes as both beaches and town lovely with views of the Alps over the sea.

There's lots of other nice (Nice!?) towns round there.

Costa Smeralda - Sardinia. Beautiful white sandy beaches with clear seas and amazing food.

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa! Upmarket and relaxed, we adore it and have returned for many years. The beaches are great and have incredibly calm water. We normally stay at the Puerto Azul Hotel which is fabulous, especially for kids

Île de Ré

I was going to say Puerto Pollensa too. It is busy, but so pretty and chilled. We go off-season - I realise that's not possible with children but maybe a half term rather than summer?

Agios Nikolaos in Crete - close to Elounda and Spinalonga, but a bit larger so potentially more for the kids to explore. Some really lovely hotels and restaurants too. Chania also looks amazing on the other side of the island, it’s on my list for 2021

TessApricot · 06/12/2020 20:29

Wow you’re really selling Puerto Pollensa! It sounds amazing. I am looking at everyone’s suggestions, I promise.
