CBA to cook or eat ‘proper’ meals while ill. What shall I get Mr Sainsbury to bring?

Still have covid jelly legs and just do not fancy the usual meals we eat.

I’ve been eating some soup. What else can I get that’s nice? Quiche might appeal, can’t think of anything else.

They do good stews, casseroles and pasta dishes.

GreyishDays · 04/12/2020 11:06

It’s not just the cooking, I don’t want to eat them either Grin

Pieminster Kevin pies are lovely. The higgedy range of quiches and pies (especially the mushroom pie) is good.

When I don’t feel like eating, beige children’s freezer food is my staple. Alphabites, potato waffles etc.

MrsWooster · 04/12/2020 11:14

What about nice things picky bits like cheese straws, nice soups, different pates and cheeses, nice cordials to drink, fruit selections like melon, stawbwries... treat stuff.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 04/12/2020 11:14

Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese soups! They will be warming, not too filling and also full of zest.

GreyishDays · 04/12/2020 11:17

Thank you everyone, all ideas very welcome Smile

There's a Higgedy pie with steak and a potato topping which is pretty much a full meal in itself. Could add some frozen veg if you have the energy.

I had a Charlie Bigham lasagne the other day that was really nice.

MrsWooster · 04/12/2020 11:28

Apologies for my spelling-I didn’t have my glasses on!

Instant Asian ramen soup, with some veg added in (broccoli florets or pak choi and pre-chopped ginger/chili)

I think if you’ve lost your appetite then little meals but full of flavors (spicy, tangy, salty) is the way to go.

HerFlowersToLove · 04/12/2020 11:40

We've been going through the same thing and even ready meals aren't remotely tempting. Weirdly, I seem to have regressed to fancying childhood food. Beans on toast with a bit of grated cheese, toast and anything really - jam, cheese and coleslaw, Marmite - and tinned tomato soup. Do any of those appeal? It's really odd the way your appetite changes with covid isn't it.

CosyQueen · 04/12/2020 11:47

Jacket potatoes - with cheese and beans, or coleslaw and cheese, tuna?
Pasta with pesto? Or those sachets of pasta n sauce (I particularly like the macaroni cheese or cheese and broccoli one)
Frozen pizzas?

QueenPaws · 04/12/2020 11:48

Desserts? Rice pudding, crumble and custard
Ice cream
Those buffet snack selections you stick in the oven

Littlemissnutcracker · 04/12/2020 11:49

I agree with beige childrens food. Though a good quality chicken soup and fresh bread might be better.

sashh · 04/12/2020 11:56

Have a look at all the party food / canapes. I had some Iceland mini quiche the other day.

If you get a selection you can cook them and then snack when you feel like it.

My local council has opened meals on wheels up to anyone, you could check if your council do them. If they don't then still have a look at the frozen food companies that advertise on TV they do meals for small appetites.

SomethingOnce · 04/12/2020 13:42

Taste the Difference macaroni cheese. With a nice salad.

x2boys · 04/12/2020 13:57
