Lost rings

I wondered if anyone had any experience of claiming for lost jewellery (specifically wedding and engagement ring). I have absolutely no memory of what I have done with them and have torn the house apart looking for them but honestly could not tell say if I lost them inside or outside the house. I know which day I had them last but otherwise have absolutely no memory of wearing them at a later point, taking them off putting them down or anything.

We are debating claiming on insurance we have an LV policy with personal belonging cover for loss or damage to personal belongings. The wedding ring is below the £2k limit and the engagement ring is above the limit but named on the policy.

We can't work out if is better to say I have no memory, that I lost them inside or if I lost them outside. I am still looking but I can't spend my life looking for them and I'm getting quite distressed now.

Any advice from anyone who has been through similar?

I lost mine about 5 years ago. I turned the house upside down, it really did feel like they vanished into thin air. We claimed on the home insurance. It was a really easy process. They had someone come to the house, he had a big briefcase full of rings in different sizes, a book of different stones, colours etc. I could have had anything i wanted up to the value of the insurance limit but I just had the original rings copied copied.

We couldn't find the receipt from when we bought them but I had the original ring boxes and they looked at our wedding album which had close up photos of them too.

Hi Wicker thanks for your quick response. Do you mind me asking did you say what happened? Ie that they just seem to have disappeared, or did you know where you had lost them?

I told the truth, I said i had no idea where they'd gone, that I don't think I could have lost them outside of the home but that id searched everywhere. I said that perhaps they'd be stolen out of the kitchen as I sometimes leave them on the window sill while I'm washing the dishes but I don't actually think that's what happened, seems a bit far fetched. It really is a mystery and I often find myself wondering where they are or if someone else is wearing them!

Yes, this happened to me! I suddenly realised it was missing one night before going to bed and retraced my steps throughout the previous days. The only time it could have slipped off my finger without me realising was when I had been filling the garden waste bin the previous day. I’d picked up several handfuls of leaves etc and I realised that’s when it must have happened, when my hands were cold and outstretched to throw the debris into the bin. It was the only possible explanation.
The problem was that the bins had been collected that day.
I phoned my insurance company and I was covered under my policy, I think under accidental loss, but I had no receipt or record of purchase. I had to take a wedding photo to a jeweller for him to describe it accurately (by comparing its size and shape to my husband’s) for a like for like replacement. A Birmingham Jewellery Quarter company (instructed by insurance co.) sent me a ring sizing guide through the post the next day and I received the replacement ring within a week of making my claim.
Not sure if my example helps you or not. It took me ages to physically imagine how it could have possibly slipped off as I never remove it so couldn’t have left it anywhere to get lost or stolen.

Thank you both! I'm just worried they'll say something like you've not searched the house enough! But it could be lost outside, I just have no memory and having looked this much keeping on looking (basically in the same places) is getting upsetting. Thank you again
