Posted a large letter on Saturday 1st class to another address in uk they still haven't received it !!!

Its almost like there's a global pandemic that could cause delays to delivery times.

Ariela · 03/12/2020 16:50

Not surprising. This week and next are absolute peak for letters/parcels for RM. Plus we have covid-19 delays.

First thing to do is check RM CV-a9 updates page for delays in that delivery area.

Secondly just wait. It'll arrive.

minou123 · 03/12/2020 16:54

www.postoffice.co.uk/coronavirus-help-support/mail

Royal mail have said there will be delays due to post office staff social distancing, off sick and in self isolation.

I know right 🤦🏻‍♀️
vanillandhoney · 03/12/2020 16:57

There's absolutely massive delays with Royal Mail at the moment. 2-10 days according to our local post office!

Councilworker · 03/12/2020 17:00

I had a 2nd class package arrive yesterday that was posted 24 November. Things are rreeeaaaally slow in terms of RM delivery due to higher volumes and fewer staff

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/12/2020 17:01

Maybe there have been restrictions, hold ups and changed delivery times this year?

Who knows?

No, wait! I did. They haven't been promising weekend letter delivery for months, packages only. And all sorts of other local changes too!

Plump82 · 03/12/2020 17:02

Ive ordered various things and some have arrived quicker than others. Some have arrived that i also ordered more recently than others. Annoying i bought something 12 days ago as i need it for tomorrow. It said it would arrive Monday 30th and still isnt here. But as people have said, its the time of year 🤷‍♀️

movingonup20 · 03/12/2020 17:03

It's hit or miss, had a second class beat a first class by 2 days

stellagibbons · 03/12/2020 17:08

We only seem to get deliveries Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the moment.

DD had an exam paper posted to her last Friday and it's still not arrived - due tomorrow as well so she's had to do it on a half sized print out from an email.

alexdgr8 · 03/12/2020 17:17

did you put the correct postage on it.
standard postage may not cover larger or heavier items.
large letter prices start at £1.15.

nosswith · 03/12/2020 18:14

Not exactly a surprise.

Once the vaccine has been rolled out to a large number of people, let's see who uses Covid 19 as an excuse for service the longest. In the top 10 will surely be the Royal Mail, BT, some banks and Ryanair.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 03/12/2020 18:17

I sent something tracked first class a couple of weeks ago, it took a week to arrive.

Firkinhavinalaugh · 03/12/2020 18:18

And yet it’s still acceptable to increase the price of a first class stamp by more than 10% 🙄.

An urgent cheque is still “in the post” to the bank 3 weeks and counting - first class that’s longer than the standard pandemic delay.

I adore our postie, he’s brilliant but perhaps the “system” isnt!

LittleMissLockdown · 03/12/2020 18:19

So glad it's not just us, except ours appears to the opposite days. We never see the postman on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. It's been like this for about 8 weeks. I appreciate they are busy but it's meant we've missed receiving some pretty important letters which didn't arrive until the day they were needed (e.g. On the day of appointments) or even after.

cushioncovers · 03/12/2020 18:20

Did it collected on Saturday or Monday? Did you put a first class large letter stamp or a regular stamp?

vanillandhoney · 03/12/2020 18:21

Royal Mail will be hugely understaffed and massively overworked at the moment. Things take longer at Christmas anyway, add on all the complications involved with a pandemic (social distancing, staff off sick or isolating) and it's hardly surprising, is it?
SillyMoomin · 03/12/2020 18:21

God we’d love regular post 3 times a week. Currently in south Oxfordshire (big town) and we haven’t had post for .... 22 days.

And we definitely have about 20 birthday cards “pending”

Angry
Firkinhavinalaugh · 04/12/2020 11:52

@vanillandhoney I totally appreciate that they are busy and have all the problems that you’ve mentioned, but three weeks for a first class letter? We shouldn’t have to make things “special delivery” all the time, it wasn’t urgent when it was sent to the bank but three weeks later it is.

Also another example of the system having problems is this:

My mother and two parcels at the same time, to the same person. She bought next day delivery at HUGE expense, I purchased 2nd class (standard). Both arrived at the same time. Great for my 2nd class, but appalling system that allows you to pay 5x as much for the same service in the same place. It’s like a free for all and makes a mockery of the pricing system really.

Just my opinion but if you have differing levels of service, the system should manage these. It’s also not acceptable to not receive your post. If we don’t have post, we know as the postman skips our house, but when they just don’t bother turning up is this because there is only one letter for the street? So like Hermes it’s deemed a pain in the arse? Or if it is being dropped to a three day delivery only - this needs to be communicated properly to senders and receivers.

Unfortunately we are talking about it now, but it isn’t just now it’s been happening, and for some of us it was happening pre-pandemic too.

I don’t have any solutions 😂 but it’s annoying all the same and then to be charged more for it - a bit like train companies 🙄🤣

misscockerspaniel · 04/12/2020 12:07

A postie won't miss out a house because "there is only one letter" for the street.

A mix of covid staff shortages etc, Black Friday plus a huge rise in online shopping, and Christmas pressure is why items are being delayed. Sorting offices are heaving at the seams.

LittleMissLockdown · 04/12/2020 12:44

A postie won't miss out a house because "there is only one letter" for the street.

See I would absolutely love to believe that but that doesn't seem to work with what is happening here. There is absolutely no other explanation than they are skipping streets otherwise why do I never see the postie on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

It's impossible to believe that none of the houses on my road have mail that could be delivered on these days so the only other option is they are skipping the street altogether and only delivering to our road 2 days a week.
