Sainsbury’s parking - how long for free?

I’m looking at the whole water coming down outside and thinking we should drive to the supermarket (we need to collect a parcel nearby as well).

Anyone know how long do you get for free parking in the stores?

Surely this is different across the U.K.

LarsErickssong · 03/12/2020 16:07

Near me it's 3 hours in one and 1 hour in another so it depends which Sainsbury's you are going to..

ivfbeenbusy · 03/12/2020 16:08

Depends on the specific supermarket and often it gets "absurd" for free parking by everyone - many city centre ones are 90mins Max others don't have a limit at all

ivfbeenbusy · 03/12/2020 16:08

*"abused"

PickleSarnie · 03/12/2020 16:09

None at hours. Unless you manage to bag one of the few 30mins spots. Otherwise you can claim parking back after a spend instore.

It'll be different everywhere.

^^ours

Read the sign in the car park?? The mind boggles that they’d all be the same. Some are free without a ticket , others you are time limited etc.

lastqueenofscotland · 03/12/2020 16:10

All the ones near me (north west) are 2/3 hours

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/12/2020 16:11

I assumed they’d be standard. I can read but it’s 3 miles away and my eyesight isn’t that good...

Most car parks are not owned by Sainsbury’s

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/12/2020 16:11

I meant we would do the shopping and get the ticket validated.

I never thought they didn’t own them - but that does make sense as they won’t own the buildings either.

Type into your search engine - sainsbury carparking, your town. I just did that where I live and it came up with short and long term parking details for them.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/12/2020 16:26

I looked on the store details in the site but it just said that there was parking! No one is picking up the phone in customer services.

You need to sit closer to your computer. My screen is about a foot away from my face and I can find out all about the car parking situation at my local Sainsbos without getting off my arse.

I've never paid for parking at Sainsburys but clearly this situation is not universal.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/12/2020 16:49

On the Sainsbury’s website I can’t see times, just the facilities.

OP posts:
nosswith · 03/12/2020 18:16

Would you need more than an hour to shop? Or begrudge a small parking charge if there is one?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 03/12/2020 18:20

Ours is two hours but you don't have to buy anything, the ANPR flashes up your leaving time as you drive in.

Shopaholic100 · 03/12/2020 18:27

I’m near two Sainsbury’s, one has 2 hours free parking and the other has no limits (I go to this one as I got a fine for spending too long shopping in the other one 🙈).

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/12/2020 18:47

No probs with paying parking - just pondering if it was worth using their parking or the £££ nearby on-street parking. Either way - avoid the £15 congestion fee.
