Can glasses be donated/recycled anywhere?

Dd1 (11) would like to know. Her specs are being replaced next week. I'm hopeful we can donate the redundant pairs somewhere worthwhile? Any ideas?

there used to be bins in the opticians.

Check out the spec savers website. Pre-Covid they had a bin in their shops where you could drop off old glasses; not sure if they are still doing it.

Boots used to have a place in store for that I think. Or I wonder if the optician you go to has a scheme.

Boots opticians take them

My optician (vision express) still accepts old glasses for donation, they are passed on to relevant charities. They don't accept cases, though.

My local independent optician has a bin for recycling glasses. They get sent to places in Africa by a charity to be re-used.

Ah fabulous we are collecting the new pair from boots anyway. I wasn't there when she had the eye test exh took her abs didn't ask 😡. I'm glad it's a thing I'll tell her after school thank you

Yep, opticians usually do it. Our household recycling takes old glasses too, might be worth a check? I think our council has quite a good recycling offer though so it's probably not done everywhere.

I popped the lenses out of my children's glasses and donated to reception class for dress up. They loved them!!Smile

I always keep the old glasses as spares in case the new break, so I recycle the 'last but 1' pair.
