Birthday Cards At Work

I will gladly sign a card for a colleague’s birthday. Some folks that have only been with us for a short while have been given a card yet I have never had one & this will be the 4th birthday since I started. I’m on Facebook so at least some of my colleagues know when my birthday is. I like to think I get on with pretty much everyone. It does rankle a bit if I’m honest. Can anyone empathise?

That's a bit sh*t eternal. I don't know how you can mention it though, without it seeming pointed.

Anyone else?

This is frustrating. I'm the kind of person that is happy to give for other people's birthday, I put money in all year round for other people. Then, when it comes to my birthday, I get nothing!!

I'm a teacher and my birthday falls in the summer holidays, so no one ever remembers. Yet, I put money in for everyone else in my department throughout the year. I always feel guilty for being bothered, but it is slightly frustrating!

Do you discuss or mention your birthday coming up? Not that you should have to but it does help.

We have a list in our department and its the office managers job to remind everyone to get cards.

We have a birthday card club at work, if you want a card you put in a small amount at the start of the year and the organiser adds you to the list. She buys all the cards, passes them around to be signed and gives it to you on the day. If you don't want your birthday celebrated you just don't join in. Big birthdays tend to get a general whip round and/or a big cake.

I have a designated birthday person who arranges all the cards and maintains the list of special events and times we need to mark.

Maybe because you’re more established it’s assumed you are on someone’s list.

Organise a whole team, nobody left out, includes everyone card system. It cave just birthdays but we make sure we do bereavement and year since bereavement anniversary, Eid, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving loss of beloved pet and congratulations on various things.

My birthday is on my Facebook page & my Manager knew because I asked to swap shifts this week. As I said, the main thing that upsets me is how many people who have been at the store for a really short time are given cards & I have been working there for over 3 years.

I did get a card 3 years ago as it’s just popped up on my Facebook memories.
