How lucky am I. (Mammogram related)

November 13th I had my 3 year mammogram. Called to go back yesterday 1-12-2020.
They found something in my left boob. Informed that it's so small that I wouldn't be able to feel it for a long time.
Had a biopsy and get the results next Monday. Hopefully it's not malignant or they have caught it early enough.

If nothing else it proves that it's important to attend if giving the opportunity.

that is good. hope all goes well.
had mine today. was surprised how quick it was. so much faster in these covid times.

Chamomileteaplease · 02/12/2020 16:29

I have my first one next week. I am terrified of the pain. How uncomfortable is it?

DragonWillow · 02/12/2020 16:33

Same happened to me, called back & had a biopsy on my first one - the wait for results is terryfing but thankfully it came back as benign.

@Chamomileteaplease - I didn't find it uncomfortable at all but everyone is different

Imagine putting your boob in the fridge door then having a rugby player slowly push the door closed onto your boob with a steady force. It's really ouchy in a slow motion, when will this fucking stop, kind of way. Necessary though.

Knittedfairies · 02/12/2020 16:35

@Chamomileteaplease - I didn't find it too uncomfortable either.

Chamomileteaplease · 02/12/2020 16:40

thank you all. I will hope I am one of the ones who does not feel they are in close proximity to a fridge door Shock

PoppyOppy · 02/12/2020 17:31

I didn't find it too uncomfortable and I've had quite a few this year as well as biopsies and breast surgery. Luckily all clear.

Not quite as bad as @waitrosetrollydolly would have you believe Grin

Oldraver · 02/12/2020 17:34

I had a mammogram Tuesday and got a letter with an appointment at the breast clinic for the next Thursday. Unfortunately it was my birthday and we had arranged to go away for the weekend so I phoned and rescheduled to the following Monday

They were actually shocked I rescheduled as they assumed I'd want to be in straight away

Got the results a week later so only two and a half weeks from initial mammogram

Oldraver · 02/12/2020 17:35

Sorry... mammogram on a Tuesday

Noidea2114 · 02/12/2020 17:37

It's uncomfortable but manageable.

StandardPoodle · 02/12/2020 17:42

I suspect it may depend on the equipment - I used to find them painful until my last but one mammogram which was much better - when I mentioned this the nurse said this was a new machine.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 02/12/2020 17:44

Uncomfortable but manageable is how I'd describe it too, I had mine last week. The woman that did it was lovely, friendly and efficient and it's all very well organised despite being in a caravan.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 02/12/2020 17:48

Yes, it literally feels like you have your tits trapped in a car door, but it really is only for a few seconds and isn't that bad at all! And it could save your life!

Darnley · 02/12/2020 17:48

Due a post op one year check soon. Breast screening saved my life and I shall be forever grateful.

TroysMammy · 02/12/2020 17:50

I'm 5ft and my colleagues joked they would have a step for me to get my boobs on the plate. The machine moves up and down and there was no need for a step. I don't think I had any pain but the heating was on and it was quicker than I thought. I will be due my next one in 2021.

HaudMaDug · 02/12/2020 18:05

Hope you get good news OP.
I'm 46 so not been called upon yet but I'm so flat chested I do wonder how they will manage to scan mine.

BarbarAnna · 02/12/2020 18:05

Everyone is different and I have also found each mammogram is different. My first few were fine. More recently they have been bloody painful. I have started to take painkillers. Just be prepared that you may find it uncomfortable and do tell them if you are struggling.

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/12/2020 18:07

I’m also awaiting a biopsy result. They said they’ll call next week. It’s an anxious week.

Did your paper stitches fall off naturally or have you taken them off?

Noidea2114 · 02/12/2020 18:32

OverTheRainbow88 my paper stitches haven't come off yet. I had a large plaster over the top as I was bleeding a lot that came off as Ive just had a shower.
I was given an appointment for this coming Monday while I was there. Surprised about that as the Doctor during the ultrasound said it could take up to a fortnight.
I was shown the problem on the screen. It looks white and about 1/2 inch long.

Was in a haze wish I'd asked more questions. Why did the Doctor say 14days when I'm back in 6 days. Is that good news or bad.
All thoughts are in my head.

Will they be phoning with the results over the phone or give you an appointment to go back. I hope you get your results quickly and they are clear.
Good luck.

@Noidea2114

Hope you get the all clear and fast.

Mine didn’t offer another appointment they said they’ll call me in about 12 days to tell me over the phone.

I also wish I asked more questions; I didn’t ask any and it’s not very nice having to go in alone.

Yes I took of the big plaster thing as wanted a shower but wasn’t sure what to do with the stitches thing! That was one question I did ask and they said well give you a leaflet... which they didn’t and I forgot to ask again!

Noidea2114 · 02/12/2020 18:46

OaverTheRainbow88 I didn't get a leaflet either.
I can't believe they are telling you over the phone.
12 days is a long time when you are worried.
Hopefully it will be sooner.

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/12/2020 19:03

Yes it isn’t great. They wouldn’t even commit to a time and I’ll be teaching all day!!

user1471543094 · 02/12/2020 19:15

I had a lump in my breast and got it checked on Monday Absolutely nothing sinister about the lump but the did see some calcium thingys In the other boob so I got biopsied. Have an apt for a week's time....they said it could be sooner and they will phone me if it is. I am assuming I will only get a call if it's clear though? In my head they would only have me come in if it's bad news.

Re paper stitches I was told they would come off themselves after a few days.

user1471543094 · 02/12/2020 19:16

Also been super impressed with the 'service' provided. So thorough. And the clinic was incredibly well run.

peaceanddove · 02/12/2020 19:55

I was involved in a local trial for mammograms for women under 50. It found something. So I had a biopsy. Turns out I had a small mass of DCIS and hidden within was a 1.7mm cancer. To say I was shocked is an understatement. My treatment was very efficient and easy. A therapeutic breast reduction and lift to the affected breast (I'd actually wanted one for years, I'm a 34G) followed by five sessions of radiotherapy. I'm now on Tamoxifen for 5 years and discharged by my oncologist.

I am still surprised at how straightforward my treatment was. Apparently, the cancer was so tiny that it would have been a few years before I could have physically felt anything. I am so, so glad and lucky that I agreed to be part of that trial.
