Would you buy a John Lewis gift voucher

Would you risk it as a gift ? Do you think they will be ok with all the other retailers having troubles. I'm sure Waitrose does ok, but the the dept stores can't be doing well. Online can be hit and miss, although I have ordered some presents from JL online.

The only vouchers I would buy are the All 4 One type that do many shops. Martin Lewis warned a while ago about buying vouchers.

Alconleigh · 02/12/2020 13:46

There were hundreds of people queuing outside my local JL this morning. And the other department stores keep closing. I think they will be ok.

sofiaaaaaa · 02/12/2020 13:46

Yes I would

I wouldn't have an issue with it in the slightest - other retailers are in really different siutations and I don't think John Lewis is the same level of risk at all. Their vouchers are John Lewis/Waitrose combined also.

MyristicaFragrans · 02/12/2020 13:48

Yes, absolutely.

Always love a JL gift card.

Don't buy All 4 One gift cards! They never work and there are so many shops that day they've never heard of them and they don't accept them!

I'd say John Lewis is safer because of Waitrose.

Twinkie01 · 02/12/2020 14:12

All for One vouchers are dreadful. They depreciate a n value of you don't use them in an allotted time and we couldn't use them on lots of stores which are listed as accepting them.

PicsInRed · 02/12/2020 14:15

Not a chance.

LemonBreeland · 02/12/2020 15:18

Interesting comments on One For All vouchers as I've been given them in the past and never had a problem using them.

I would avoid vouchers completely this year myself though.

ivfbeenbusy · 02/12/2020 15:25

Yea I'd still buy them. They aren't likely to go bust with 24 hours notice. If someone sits on them for months then that's their own issue

vanillandhoney · 02/12/2020 15:27

TBH I'd be very reluctant to buy any vouchers or gift cards right now.

movingonup20 · 02/12/2020 15:28

Personally I would avoid gift vouchers. A prepaid credit card is a far safer option or better still, cash!

Hayeahnobut · 02/12/2020 15:34

JL did experience a large loss this year, but their business model is entirely different to that of Debenhams, Arcadia etc. Their exposure to debt and risk is far lower, and their customer base less likely to be significantly affected by the pandemic, unemployment and so on.

I don't buy vouchers, but if I had to I wouldn't be concerned about a JL one.

Curlygirl06 · 02/12/2020 15:41

They work in Waitrose,

steppemum · 02/12/2020 15:46

well, ifanyone gives me a JL voucher, I always swap it with my mum for cash, as she shops at waitrose and can use them there.

I can never find anythign to buy there.
They are good (but not cheap) for bedding, and sometimes Christmas decorations. That's all I'd get there. Everything else is cheaper if you look around

CunnyLingus · 02/12/2020 15:56

No issue with JL. They seem to deliver what the customer wants and are run a bit differently of course to a PLC.

EmilySpinach · 02/12/2020 15:58

I would.

CorianderQueen · 02/12/2020 16:05

Yes. But if everything there - homeward, beauty, fashion, food. Good choice.

NomDePrune · 02/12/2020 16:11

I would if I knew they shop there anyway. Worth remembering that if you buy online at JL with a gift card, and need a refund, the refund will be account credit, which doesn't work in shops or Waitrose and is non-negotiable.

Tierful · 02/12/2020 17:23

The day that John Lewis goes under is when we are all truly doomed and an unused gift voucher will be the least of your worries Xmas Grin
