Dust

Is there any magic way to stop it! I don't understand why but over the last couple of months my house has become incredibly dusty! To the point where after 3 days another thick layer has appeared. It's a nightmare

Not sure it shows it as dusty as it is!

Have you got building work going on nearby?

bilbodog · 02/12/2020 11:17

OP do you wear glasses or contact lenses? If so take them off/out - all the dust suddenly disappears 🤣🤣🤣

JaneJeffer · 02/12/2020 11:42

Do you have an open fire or wood burner? They cause a lot of dust.

I was about to ask if you had a log burner!

We have one and live in an old and dusty cottage, winter time the dust is a constant issue. Things I've found work are using the robovac several times a day on 30 minute bursts and wet dusting little and often. I also use micro fibre cloths rather than traditional dusters.

I think Quentin Crisp said the first four years were the worst. Then you don’t notice the dust after.

Sounds like a plan...

Champagneforeveryone · 02/12/2020 12:28

DH is a fan of that Quentin Crisp quote. It's the closest I've ever come to serious violence when he trots that one out Grin

Did anyone else thing of Marjorie Dawes... "Dust - high in fat or low in fat?" Grin

maverickallthetime · 02/12/2020 13:06

@JaneJeffer we don't but our neighbours do and it's been churning out loads of smoke recently!!! Stinky smoke too, I've been tempted to knock and see if they are burning something different as it's just awful.

@bilbodog yes I do but then I see nothing!

I just hate it, would love to ignore it but it just seems so dirty!

@Champagneforeveryone a damp cloth might be the way to go!

Anybody? No?

Duvetstay · 02/12/2020 13:41

I'm really allergic to dust so it's a bit of an obsession. We have a wood burner but I never notice the difference.

Is it worse since you turned the heating on? Radiators get loads of dust in them them distribute it everywhere. If you can clean them and under whatever furniture you can as air streams can move it about that way too. I'm going carpet free in most rooms as I notice a big difference in the rooms where we just have floorboards.

Duvetstay · 02/12/2020 13:43

But if you find a magic way to stop it please let me know 🤔
