What’s been the most useful/boring thing you’ve bought this year?

For me it’s an plug-in heated foot warmer for under my desk. It’s made my whole day a million times more pleasant and comfortable.

We also got a shoe rack that fits over our hallway door - the days of tripping over shoes are over and it was worth every penny.

Second-hand ski jacket from DePop. I don’t ski and have no intention of starting but with all the zips and pockets it makes an absolutely perfect dog-walking coat Grin

CockleburIck · 02/12/2020 09:01

Foam ear plugs.
Got a pack of 12 from Poundland first of all; and yesterday received a huge tub from Amazon.
They have saved my sanity and my marriage. DH snores, not terribly, but I am a very light sleeper and worse now in perimenopause.

I can sleep right through the night now, and haven't abandoned the marital bed!

Proper rice cooker - so boring but an absolute delight! Perfect rice every time.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 02/12/2020 09:06

Mattress suspenders - little clips that go under the corners of the mattress and hold the sheet in place. My mum has an electric bed and the sheet goes everywhere but the suspenders hold it in place.

Robotic vacuum- can't get over the change it's had on the house to do a run every day rather than once a week.
A new cutlery organiser that fits the drawer properly

BadEyeBri · 02/12/2020 09:18

Eufy robot vacuum. He's amazing

userxx · 02/12/2020 09:21

@CanIGetALattaaaaay Can you post a link please? That would make a brilliant present for my mum.

StillMedusa · 02/12/2020 09:45

A rubber broom... SO much better for sweeping wood floors.it actually catches all the dog hair!

Nomnomarrgh · 02/12/2020 10:21

Bag ties. I bought them just before English lockdown #2, they are pandas with really long tongues and I get to giggle when I stop the pasta falling out of the bag.

EvelynSalt · 02/12/2020 10:23

A Capsule Halo cordless vacuum. I love it so much. I frequently cradle it while walking around the house looking for stuff to hoover Confused

CanIGetALattaaaaay · 02/12/2020 13:54

@userxx Absolutely, it’s this one:

I keep considering a robotic vacuum, looks like they’re super useful

@CanIGetALattaaaaay please can we see the shoe rack?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/12/2020 14:05

A wacom tablet and pen for the laptop. It's made editing fiddly bits on photos much easier because I can be more precise with it.

tigerbear · 02/12/2020 14:06

Not a ‘thing’ as such, but I got my eyebrows micro bladed this year. Life changing! Honestly one of the few things that has made a huge difference to the way I look (and saves me loads of time in the morning, as don’t need to pencil them in, and don’t need to wear as much makeup in general, as my face now looks more ‘done’ without it).

In the same vein, using a lash serum made a huge difference too (Rapidlash), and skin treatments inc salicylic acid to clear acne/bumpy skin (Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant, although it’s £££ so have recently bought a similar but cheaper version, Nip & Fab Salicylic Tonic).

TeenPlusTwenties · 02/12/2020 15:09

A document camera, which enabled DD to keep up with English tutoring throughout lockdown and onwards.

ImaSababa · 02/12/2020 15:13

Extra phone charging cables and plugs so I have one in every room. So much easier than trying to find one or move one from room to room.

RadGlags · 02/12/2020 15:18

Window vac

userxx · 02/12/2020 15:46

@CanIGetALattaaaaay Thank you!

ohnoisaid2much · 02/12/2020 15:49

Draught excluder and pressure cooker

userxx · 02/12/2020 15:52

@tigerbear Is Nip&Fab any good?

onetwothreeadventure · 02/12/2020 15:52

Two eufys (well 3 if I count the one I'm giving someone for Christmas!) and a spin bike with amazing classes.

Inextremis · 02/12/2020 15:58

A hooded rain poncho (£18.99 from Amazon) that I can just slip on over my clothes to take the dogs down the field when it's raining. Brilliant. Made even better by the fact that the identical thing is currently being advertised on FaceBook for £69.99 (the only difference being that theirs has a pattern, mine is plain black).

AlCalavicci · 02/12/2020 16:00

Although I bought him last year my Eufy has made lockdown more pleasant he trundle round while I am writing my eleventybillionth email.
( anyone considering buying one look for the thread 'any new Eufy Parents, or something like that loads of info on there )

My more recent good buy was a hot water bottle to keep on my back while WFH

123rd · 02/12/2020 16:01

EUFY here too. Love it

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 02/12/2020 16:02

Eufy!
