When's the last time you went in an actual Debenham's store?

It was half a decade ago for me. I don't buy from them online either.

They don't seem to have moved with the times?

Just before lockdown & online on Sunday. I tend to buy more at Debenhams online, I really like their website. It’s my go to shop for party shoes and I like their clothes occasion wear to work clothes they have it all.

Fizbosshoes · 01/12/2020 18:28

Recently! Great toilets. Also, buy clothes when on sale and love their baby clothes. I will miss them.

Please tell me what Debenhams has great toilets? I used to work in Debenhams and most debenhams toilets I've used , smelled awful, even after they had a refurb! (Not as if I'd been unlucky to go in after someone had made a smell, but a permanent horrible drainy smell)

TiersOfAClown · 01/12/2020 18:29

Maybe 10 years ago? I have tried several times since to buy something online but the range, website layout, stck details and exeprience was so poor, I gave up every time.

Today's news is sad, but not very surprising.

No idea, my local Debenhams, closed quite a while ago.

BikeRunSki · 01/12/2020 18:30

I used to work near one and would browse at lunchtimes. Not sure I ever bought anything. Actually, yes, Origins face products if I was feeling flush. Haven’t worked there for 11 years. Haven’t bern to any other Debs. I won’t miss it.

Crankley · 01/12/2020 18:30

About twenty years ago.

Nicknacky · 01/12/2020 18:30

Just before our shops closed, ours is a lovely one and has only been there a few years. Lovely toilets too! Will be a massive loss to our town.

Only place to get Dior make up etc here.

SixStringFanjo · 01/12/2020 18:31

Immediately before the latest lockdown. But I do live less than 200 metres away from one.

Knittedfairies · 01/12/2020 18:31

As upthread, the Nottingham store is dire; it's a rabbit warren. It must be 5+ years since I bought something there.

Springersrock · 01/12/2020 18:32

15 years or so ago.

DH got his wedding suit from there, and I’ve bought clothes for my kids when they were small - kids are 19 and 16

I’ve ordered a few bits online I think

cariadlet · 01/12/2020 18:32

Probably last year. I've taken dd there for bra fittings (lovely helpful staff), sometimes get clothes or bags for my mum from the Mantaray range and I like the cookshop and bedding.

cariadlet · 01/12/2020 18:34

Although, when it's gone, I won't miss it as much as Woolworths. I used to love Woolies.

SteakBake4Me · 01/12/2020 18:35

I mainly used to used two before I moved away from Yorkshire - a smallish one in Harrogate, and a bigger one in Leeds. I loved the Harrogate one in the late 90s, because it had Storm bubble watches and Kangol stuff Grin we used to go round the perfume concessions asking for free samples.

Moved to the north east a few years ago - I’ve been in the one in Newcastle a few times but not regularly, I think the last time was in about 2015 when I was looking for a fascinator for a wedding.

2tired2bewitty · 01/12/2020 18:38

Our local one closed about this time last year but I did pop in occasionally, got ds a Christmas jumper on sale in mid December the year before that.

The one in our previous home town was so overcrowded with stock that it was practically impossible to navigate with a pushchair.

WeddingGrump · 01/12/2020 18:38

End of October, I got a pair of half price Levis. Just tried to go on to the website to see if any were left in stock another and there's a queue to get on, an once you are you have a half hour window to browse, so apparently quite a few people have had the same idea.

ChristopherTracy · 01/12/2020 18:40

A weeks ago, got DS a vastly knocked down winter coat. Very pleased with myself.

I also used to get my brows done at the brow bar concession.

NoEffingWay · 01/12/2020 18:43

Had my brows done last year at the benefit brow bar, the whole shop looked knackered and a bit sad, and the concessions staff in the beauty sections just chatted amongst themselves and ignored me. I left swiftly after having my brows done and went shopping elsewhere.

Nicolastuffedone · 01/12/2020 18:43

Just bought some cashmere sweaters online.....last time I was instore was last year for some aftershave as a gift. Lovely lady in the Stirling branch was so helpful and kind I wrote to the store manager to tell them.

drspouse · 01/12/2020 18:46

About 3 years ago to get a dress for a party. It's the only department store in an hour's radius of us. So that's none now.

PatchworkElmer · 01/12/2020 18:48

Probably just before lockdown, for makeup. Last time I bought anything that wasn’t makeup was a bikini a couple of years ago.

justasking111 · 01/12/2020 18:49

Grand kids when babies bought some lovely clothes there. Go in at xmas time. Gave up trying to get my make up there, it was never in stock in my colour eyeshadow wise. So bought online. Bought mens clothes there last time I was in for OH. It is just too big for me in Llandudno if I am looking for a particular garment say a jumper I lose patience so go back to online.

ExclamationPerfume · 01/12/2020 18:49

A few weeks ago. It's our only department store. Once it's gone we will have nothing left in our city centre. I love Debenhams.

BiscuitsUnited · 01/12/2020 18:52

About a year ago to get a clarins voucher for MIL - she asked for one for Xmas.

Horrible store- really claustrophobic and poky, inadequate signage so you can find anything and no staff around to help. It was the Chester store so it's a v old creaky building but still they could have had better signage and visible staff!

YewandOak · 01/12/2020 18:53

About 10 years ago. Just to have a look round.
Before that,40 years ago with my grandmother

AntiHop · 01/12/2020 18:54

Bought some clothes in their oxford st branch in January, and have done a couple of online orders since then. I buy 90% of my clothes there, no idea what I'm going to do! I especially like the brands Maine and Principles. Also bought a lot of wallis clothes there. I'm 43 now, been shopping there since I was about 25 (and bhs before it closed).

I'm gutted.
