Giving gripe water to breastfed baby

Ds is having terrible trouble with wind. Very distressing. We’ve been using infacol but he’s still uncomfortable so we’re trying gripe water now as he’s a month old. He doesn’t have a bottle or a dummy. I can’t get him to swallow the gripe water for the life of me. Just spits it straight out. I’ve tried putting it far back and blowing gently in his face so he swallows. I’ve tried small bits at a time. Just coming straight back out!

The gripe water probably tastes quite different from breast milk.

I used to hold my LOs up against my shoulder and very gently make circular movements on their backs which seemed to help them.

Could you express some milk and mix it with the gripe water ?

Maybe one of those little lappy cups they use with prem babies .

Have you tried in a Calpol type syringe, gently into his cheek?

@FlibbertyGiblets yes that’s what I’ve been using
@dizzycatdance2 I think I’ll have to do this. Might just stick it in a bottle though I wanted to wait a bit longer to introduce one

How about one of those dummy type medicine dispensers ?

Fwiw, I exclusively breast fed my dcs but dc1 did take a bottle of bm happily when he was very little, still bf fine . Just wanted to see if he would take a bottle (,major sleep deprivation !) .

Then took a break from even trying a bottle and at 3 months he would never take a bottle again.

So , in my experience, a very occasional bottle didn't affect bf and if I had continued with the occasional bottle he might not have bottle refused at 3 months .

Also, I had all of my dcs in a ring sling most of the time from birth, I think.the upright nature of being in the sling helped with wind.

Mine also ebf , took it with a syringe like pp suggested! Hope he feels better soon.

@dizzycatdance2 I had this problem with dc2. She has never taken a bottle either, so definitely wanted to get ds on a bottle earlier than I tried with her. Might as well do it now. He really hates a dummy I’ve tried to give him one when he won’t settle but has none of it, so I imagine he’ll be less than impressed with one that tastes nasty Grin
@TotorosNeighbour I went for a syringe first but he still spat the whole lot out
I’m trying 2 doses of infacol instead as per instructions and if that doesn’t work I’m going to just give him a bottle of bm with it mixed it
