Can we have a positive thread?

Just that really. Feeling very down in the dumps with brexit, covid and general world gloom.

I want to believe that this will all be a distant memory this year. Anyone want to indulge in some optimism with me, however misguided?

Please no doomsayers, there are a million other threads for that!!

Things MUCH improved in the hospital where I work!!!! 50% less covid inpatients than we had a month ago, with staff twice weekly home testing kits and vaccines to be introduced in the next two weeks!!! So positive and I'm sharing with everyone I know! X

I’m skint. My children just saw the 80p choc advent calendars I’ve put out for the morning (I’ve previously filled hand made pocket ones) and the sheer excitement that bubbles up in them was priceless.

How wonderful Flowers

MoonBaby1

Made me feel quite teary. Grew up with a single mum who had no money. Always remember the tiny things like this she did for us. I still get an advent calendar from her, aged 31.

After struggling personally and romantically for the past few years, my fiance and I have decided to become only friends.

Were still living together until next year and are best of friends.

If you had told me this was possible last year and that we would both be relieved and have no animosity I'd have laughed in your face.

Really looking forward to looking after myself and gaining some much needed confidence and independence Smile

Watch something funny (lovely accent too)

Just got offered some work via word of mouth today. Not done any solid work since June (I freelance) and have lost a lot of confidence. Hope I will measure up!

Formicamouse · 30/11/2020 21:04

These are lovely to hear!

I love how excited kids get about the simplest things in life, like advent calendars and muddy puddles! I think one positive for me in all this is that, certainly with our children, they've developed and matured over the last few months. Things such as being able to entertain themselves and be a little more independent (because they had to be when WFH!) has been great! It also makes them REALLY appreciate stuff like swimming etc but in all honesty as long as there's a park involved they are happy! I think that's really positive x

We only got our dkitten 9 days ago and already dcat is letting her cuddle him!!

Tomorrow is my daughter's second birthday, I had ten mc before her and I never thought I would have her. I just wrapped her presents and put them out ready for her to find in the morning and it's made me feel all emotional

That is just lovely. I hope she has the most wonderful day.

I also think kids are easily pleased. It's so easy to think they need all this extra stuff. In the end they need very little.

Ds1 has ASD and has been really unwell and out of school for several years due to anxiety and depression. This year despite all the set backs, despite not being able to have visits because of covid he has amazed us all by starting his new school full time after half term and totally embracing it.

Ds2 has gone into the final year of primary and after a wobbly start to the year, he worries about his big brother a lot, he has delighted in being big enough to walk to school with his friends for the last few weeks. The look of delight as he waves goodbye at the top of the drive fills me with pride.

Missingthebridegene · 30/11/2020 23:17

@vampirethriller congratulations!!!!! I can't imagine going through that many MCs I'm so sorry to hear that. Congratulations on your daughter and hope you have a great day! My daughter has just turned two and I was the same as you-so emotional! I don't see her as a two year old though-I still see her as a baby, just one with hair that chatters a lot!!! 😂 x

Missingthebridegene · 30/11/2020 23:19

@EnglishRose1320 you must feel so proud and rightly so 🥰

vampirethriller · 01/12/2020 07:26

@Formicamouse @Missingthebridegene thank you! I put the Xmas tree up last night and turned the lights on before she got up and her face when she saw them was magic!

bearlyactive · 01/12/2020 07:30

This is a great thread, good idea OP!

Lipz · 01/12/2020 07:35

We open back up here today in Ireland 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 I can't remember the last time I stood in a clothes shop, sat in McDonald's , etc I'm getting my hair done tomorrow, the last time was February 😳. The excitement is amazing, the kids are planning a cinema visit this weekend. We have some extra rules like wearing masks everywhere including the streets but it'll be worth it.

I'm always a content and happy person but in the first lockdown I had some sort of breakdown. It was very unexpected and frightening. I was very unwell for a few weeks followed by a few months of slow recovery. I'm now 100% back to my normal happy self. I couldn't give a shiny shit about this current lockdown (of course I care a lot that others are suffering). I don't care who we see at Christmas. I'm well! And it's the best feeling in the world to be myself again.

RosieLemonade · 01/12/2020 07:45

I’m going to buy a mini real Christmas tree. I’ve just decided and I’m going to the local greengrocer to buy it. Our house is tiny and we can’t have a normal one in our front room but the room looks so sad without one. It’s a bit indulgent but DD will love it.
These stories have made me a bit tearful this morning. My love to you all.

Formicamouse · 01/12/2020 08:02

Please keep these coming, they are warming my cold dead heart Smile
