I need some filofax help please.

Hi everyone.

I have asked DW for a filofax for Christmas, I have wanted one for years (maybe 15 years, since I was at school) but always talked myself out of it, because I've got a perfectly good smart phone/computer that does everything. But I find myself scribbling things down, and I find things easier if I've physically written it.

What I want to really know is -

If I get an A5 filofax will other brand A5 inserts fit it. (The official ones look a bit 80's business) I want pink and glittery 😂

Do you use yours? If so what pages do you use most?

Was it a waste of money?

I asked for a pretty leather filofax a few years ago... but never use it now. Instead, I have a dotted 'bullet journal' that I draw up each week, with appointments/ meetings on the left and my to do list and meal planner on the right.

Then throughout the week, I use the next pages in the journal for making notes/ meeting minutes/ plans, until it's time to draw up the new week. At the front of the journal, I have my months mapped out so I can note down any future events.

There are tons of guides for bullet journalling on pinterest. If you would like to see some of my pages, please let me know and I'll post them.

If you've wanted a Filofax for that long, would it be worth your while buying some of the insert pages first and just using them (stuck into a notebook, perhaps) and seeing if you like the layouts before committing to buying the whole thing?

Yes, other brands A5 insert. I usually buy WH Smith's own.
Address book pages are great.
Use the diary as, well, a diary.
The Reference pages hold all my passcodes.
Mine is black cos I went for longevity
Certainly not a waste of money.

Thank you @chickenshedinthesky I have a bullet journal, but I was always scared of ruining in. I know its ridiculous. I might dig it out.

I am off to buy some inserts, and have a play.

I use mine everyday. It’s burgundy leather with a matching Parker pen. I use the diary, notes, contact details, planner and to do lists. A lot easier than fiddling with my phone and it never runs out of battery.

and of course if you wanted to you could always use the filofax as a bullet journal
