There was a tv program on about brits moving to Barbados for 12 months under a new visa scene the govt launched this summer.
Has anyone any advise or tips as my family are very interested.

It works for Working from home but in Barbados. We have two dc aged 13 and 9.

Education, housing etc I can google but personal experiences would be great. What is it like to live there?

i dont know about living there but had a fabulous holiday there a few years ago, Barbados is very conservative on a lot of everyday levels beaches are amazing only downside is the mosquitos they are evil and the sun is very strong im a strawberry blonde and had to wear factor 50 sun cream and still burnt

We saw this programme and we'd seen the advert for the Barbados scheme previously. Antigua is doing the same. If I could work from home I'd be so tempted for 12 months. Looks idyllic!

I was there until a fortnight ago. It’s beautiful, but the sun is strong. Groceries were expensive, we found it cheaper to eat out all the time, but that’s not hugely practical. We were there for just over two months, and I worked from there for the last one. WiFi wasn’t great everywhere. The mosquitos and general bugs were a nightmare, I don’t usually get bitten but I got eaten alive... the heat was beautiful but it’s a bit relentless, I was glad of the cool when we got home, but missed it fast!

We did debate staying for longer and in the end came home because the bites were bad, and it was pretty expensive.

My concerns would be getting reliable internet that’s fast enough for more than one person to be using it - we stayed in six different parts of the island and it varied across them all - and the general costs. You’d also have the time difference for working, schooling, etc.

I was so tempted by the visa... it was a gorgeous place and I’d go back in a heartbeat... but my job is very internet heavy, and it was a bit stressful in that sense. Flights home weren’t cheap and we worried about the in-laws if we got stuck there.

They’re doing well with Coronavirus, but they’re very strict with it. Lockdown was enforced with a heavy fine or jail sentence. They keep good order.

You can see how torn I was, we decided to take the flight home at the very last minute Grin We’d probably still be there if BA hadn’t cancelled all their flights.

If we could work from home we would too. Been to both Barbados and Antigua, so familiar with them both. I’m so jealous...sigh...

My brother taught there in the 80s. Loved it.

Hello @trevorandsimon - did you end up going? We may have an opportunity to move there and I would love to hear your experience!
