Requests for unusual Christmas presents

Last week I asked DD 21yrs, for ideas for Christmas presents. She's just come back to me with .....reusuable period pads. Environmental consciouness. Great, wonderful, social responsible.

I just got a fit of giggles, resulting in coughing thinking of her father's face when she opened them on Christmas morning. Suppose i should be grateful the grandparents wont be here this Christmas!

I've just brought my 7 year old 25 house bricks for Christmas. Yes, actual real live bricks. Took me a few minutes to explain to the builders merchants this morning that I didnt want 25 pallets, I just wanted 25 bricks.

Minivivi pads have some really nice christmas designs at the moment as well. If you join the facebook group then you also get free postage on your order.

How lovely and odd @lesleyashfishlips 😂 What’s he going to do with them?

QueenPaws · 01/12/2020 01:08

I have these and love them. She does all kinds of patterns, I love the Halloween type ones Grin
Honestly I wish I had changed years ago

Oh and I asked for teabags and coffee syrup once. Dad, ever practical, went off to Costco or somewhere and came back with 1000 teabags and several litres of coffee syrup
I meant like the small mini ones Grin

When asked what he wanted for Christmas, my 3 year old said a bull Hmm

You can get mini construction kits with actual miniature bricks. Like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Teifoc-2042822-4500-Bricks-Cement/dp/B00UAQFI9W/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=model%2Bhouse%2Bbuilding%2Bkits&th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1606792761&sr=8-13

I know he asked for real bricks but he might like the mini ones too.

When DD was 2 (almost 3) she asked for Taylor Swift Confused. It was the year Shake it Off was huge and a favourite song for DD to dance to. I didn’t think I could entice Taylor to our house for Christmas so got her a white tutu to dance in instead.

I’d also through in some shampoo and conditioner bars as well.

When dd was about5 she stipulated that the only present she wanted was the foil container Chinese takeaways come in. I explained that Santa made them in packs of 10 (the smallest quantity I could find) and she got very irrate and said it had to be one only Hmm That was a very cheap Christmas and she was delighted.

glitterelf · 01/12/2020 07:25

Little miss wrote her Christmas letter on Sunday and not one thing she listed has she ever mentioned before. The two items that stick out and had us in fits of giggles was a goldfish in a bag and a big pack of Kit Kat's. It's her birthday soon so I've quickly ordered a tank that can be set up and ready so she can go and get some fish on her birthday, as for the Kit Kat's we've got some in the cupboard Grin

haba · 01/12/2020 17:08

@cactusisblooming whatever did she want it for? Grin

HiyaMeAgain · 01/12/2020 17:11

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Great idea. You could maybe get her some reusable face wipes/food pouches too?
Please excuse my ignorance, Would a re-usable face wipe just be a flannel?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2020 18:00

Much smaller than a flannel. They usually have flannel on one side and pretty fabric on the other side. To replace cotton wool, used with wipe off cleanser or micellar water. I make my own, but there will probably be loads on Etsy.

ihearttc · 01/12/2020 18:01

DS2 asked for a fireman’s pole in our lounge...small obsession with fireman Sam when he was younger!!

cactusisblooming · 01/12/2020 18:30

@cactusisblooming whatever did she want it for?

She just carried it around everywhere and then it sat proudly on a shelf for a few years Hmm

sueelleker · 01/12/2020 18:59

@Lovelydovey

DC2 wants a jar of homemade raspberry jam. Not happening as they’re out of season. Still better than the time he asked Santa to be older than DC1.
You can make jam from frozen fruit.

I had a pack of bamboo cloths free in the post the other day; they were promoting something or other.
DinosApple · 01/12/2020 19:09

DD1 asked for cheese several years in a row. Santa obliged.
Sadly, she won't touch cheese any more Hmm.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2020 19:14

Sorry re: stupid link. Here

Atalune · 01/12/2020 19:24

DS asked for a yellow man one year. He was 3 and we had no idea what the hell he meant. Grannie got him a stretchy yellow figure which he loved.

Dd also asked for a pineapple one year. That was hard to wrap. Dd also asked for a Bobs and bibs set. This meant a jewellery and hair clips. She was 2. That was my fave as she told everyone about her lovely Bobs and bibs (bits and bobs). Also a real live barbie. Pamela Anderson declined! Grin

VanGoghsDog · 01/12/2020 19:30

I'm 52, I bought myself reusable sanitary wear in June. Not had a period since!!
