Which stand mixer?

HermioneWeasley · 29/11/2020 17:17

It seems I can spend anything from £80 to £500

I’d like something that will work and last for years (won’t be heavy use), but would rather not spend £500.

Anyone got a mid priced one that’s lasted?

I've had a Kenwood for 19 years and it's still going strong. It has a K beater, whisk and dough hook and you can get other attachments for it but I find them a bit of a flaff. Love the mixer though - big bowl and it just keeps going!!

ChessieFL · 29/11/2020 17:24

The Kenwood Kmix is currently on offer in Curry’s. Which rates the Kmix higher than the Kitchenaid. I’ve just bought a Kmix and love it so far!

SimplyRadishing · 29/11/2020 17:24

We just did an exhaustive search including elaborate cost/benefit spreadsheet

I was sad to admit but Kitchenaid did not make the cut and we went for a Kenwood kmix.
It arrived yesterday and got first outing today v happy so far!!!

Onthetrain75 · 29/11/2020 17:28

Kenwood. I love the kitchen aid but it doesn’t do enough to justify the price, and I don’t have space to have one for cakes and one for everything else.

Circusoflove · 29/11/2020 17:29

I got one from Lidl last week for £60. It was recommended to me as being good for the price as most super cheap ones are rubbish. Only made a couple of things so far but no complaints.

GnomeDePlume · 29/11/2020 17:32

I have a kenwood. Use it regularly to make bread. Does the job really well. It came with lots of other things like a blender and a food processor which are also good at their jobs.

StandardPoodle · 29/11/2020 18:00

I have a Kenwood, it's nearly 10 years old and used on average daily. It was the titanium though (more expensive but more powerful motor). It's been very useful.

NaughtipussMaximus · 29/11/2020 18:03

I got a Kenwood Chef Elite for Xmas last year after some research. It’s not as pretty as a KitchenAid but it’s much harder working.

NaughtipussMaximus · 29/11/2020 18:04

No, I tell a lie. It’s a Titanium.

samandcj · 29/11/2020 18:16

My Kenwood is still going strong after 30 years. My sister inherited her Kenwood from our mum - must be 45 years old.
Capacity big enough for xmas cake.
Easy to clean. Definitely recommend

Gilead · 29/11/2020 18:17

Love my Kmix. Wanted a kitchen aid but it was about more than looks.

HermioneWeasley · 29/11/2020 18:48

Thanks for recommendations- looks like kenwood is a winner!

My Kenwood is at least 40 years old and still works perfectly.

CrimsonCattery · 29/11/2020 18:52

I have a Kmix about 6 years old. Its brilliant.

EmilySpinach · 29/11/2020 18:54

Yes, Kenwood Chef or KMix. KitchenAid are pretty and very good value in the US but the premium on both machines and spares is really high in the UK.

bathorshower · 29/11/2020 18:57

Our previous Kenwood died after 45 years - and DH had already stripped it down, taken the motor apart and replaced a part a few years prior (he even managed to get it back together again!). So they do die eventually with hard use. We replaced it with another Kenwood Chef, which has been fine so far, but we've only had it a year, so hard to tell how long it'll last!

Flaunch · 29/11/2020 18:59

I’ve had a kenwood prospero for ten years and it’s brilliant. I originally got it after seeing it recommended on here. I don’t think you can go wrong with kenwood kitchen appliances tbh.

RandomMess · 29/11/2020 19:00

In that Live well for less Programme the Lidl/Aldi one came top and beat both kitchen aid and Kenwood!!

EmilySpinach · 29/11/2020 19:02

I am sure the Lidl / Aldi one is great but a major advantage of Kenwood in particular is the huge range of accessories and spare parts that are very easily available.

HermioneWeasley · 29/11/2020 19:12

I’ve bought a kenwood! Baaa

Sounds great, now to get baking 😍

DeRigueurMortis · 29/11/2020 19:19

I own a Kitchen Aid, my DM has a Kenwood Kmix.

I prefer the look of mine but it was pretty much double the price and does nothing that my mothers Kmix can't do as well.

Both have a good variety of attachments (I have quite a few) and again I can't find any attachment the KA provides that the Kmix doesn't match - the only difference is again that the KA attachments are more expensive (which means I've bought less than I probably otherwise would have, prioritising ones I'd use regularly and forgoing any that might get used only rarely).

My mums Kmix is good quality and definitely feels it, I don't get the sense my KA is a superior piece of kit in any regard.

So frankly it depends on priorities. If you like the KA (specifically it's looks) and money isn't a factor it's a great mixer.

On the other hand if you want a great mixer, are likely to want quite a few accessories and want to maximise your bang for your buck I'd go for the Kmix.

DeRigueurMortis · 29/11/2020 19:20

Cross posted!

It's a great mixer - you'll have fun with it!

SofiaVergara · 29/11/2020 19:20

I love my kenwood Kmix! It's been going for years!

HermioneWeasley · 30/11/2020 19:56

Got mine today. Will have to wait until the weekend to play with it
