How much annual leave are you taking over Christmas?

I'm taking Christmas week off - was originally going to just take those days but now my work is shutting down the week of New Year also. So I'm considering now making it a proper big break after a crappy year and also booking off the week before Christmas too which would be 3 weeks in total. I know I'm really lucky to be able to do this - I've saved a lot of annual leave due to the pandemic, but it leaves me with only a few days left until the end of March so I'm a bit iffy about it.

What's everyone else taking off over Christmas, if you're able to take leave?

I’m only allowed to book 2 days so I’ve asked for 24th and 29th
We get bank holidays so I will have 6 days off straight

WitchesSpelleas · 29/11/2020 16:04

1 day - all we're allowed.

PawPawNoodle · 29/11/2020 16:07

I'm self employed so not strictly annual leave i guess but I'm taking 3 weeks off, 14th Dec to 5th Jan.

I'm closing my business for two weeks from the 18th to the 4th. I'm a dog walker.

Crunchymum · 29/11/2020 16:08

I will work the days between Xmas and NY. I work in sales / finance and its year end. I will be swamped early January as well but I will take a week in Mid January.

Waiting to hear if I can have W/c 21st December off. My team all have annual leave that has to be taken or lost.

OddBoots · 29/11/2020 16:08

The three bank holidays.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 29/11/2020 16:09

I'm taking a week off. We were encouraged to take a decent break after the year we have had both in work and out.

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/11/2020 16:09

I generally take two weeks off, sometimes a bit more depending on what’s happening. This year not a lot is happening! Can’t think why....

Lurkingforawhile · 29/11/2020 16:09

For the first time ever the week running up to Xmas day! Looking forward to it as I didn’t used to be allowed. Working between Xmas and NY as someone in the team needs to.

Lurkingforawhile · 29/11/2020 16:10

@Crunchymum just in case it helps they’ve allowed more AL to be carried over in the COVID legislation. Doesn’t help if your company says no though.

waitrosetrollydolly · 29/11/2020 16:10

I'm stopping in 23rd dec and start back 4th Jan ( I'm the boss so might need to deal with things if they crop up, but generally am not bothered too much when on leave )

HerbErtlinger · 29/11/2020 16:11

I'm working the 23rd then have up to the 30th off but have NYE/day off

rottiemum88 · 29/11/2020 16:11

I'll be working up until Christmas Eve and then booking 3 days of annual leave the following week, which will mean I'm off from 25th December to 4th January. I have a work exam on 30th December so DS will still be in nursery that week, but it'll be nice to have the few extra days at home once it's out of the way Smile

Kidssendingmenuts · 29/11/2020 16:12

Another self employed dog walker here, closed from the 18th for two weeks

plominoagain · 29/11/2020 16:12

None . Anyone who wanted Xmas leave had to book it as their primary leave by August 2019 . So am on nights . Again .

Next year I’m off from Xmas eve - first time in 14 years !!

WeAllHaveWings · 29/11/2020 16:13

I've got the 21st Dec - 4th Jan inclusive, so full two weeks, also using up remaining holidays due to pandemic and don't have any projects deadlines.

It's the first time ever in 32 years of working I've ever had 2 weeks at Christmas. Even with the restrictions and most of the time it will just be ds(16), dh and I, I'm really looking forward to it.

LoudBatPerson · 29/11/2020 16:13

I am away 18th to the 4th this year. Lucky enough to work in a field that I can take the whole time off. DH isn't (lost job due to Covid) so he won't be working either which will be nice as he worked all days last year.

BeyondMyWits · 29/11/2020 16:13

Xmas day off. Really the pits that boxing day is a Saturday, so off Xmas day, in Saturday... will be manic (retail)

InTheNightWeWillWish · 29/11/2020 16:19

I’ve currently got the days between Christmas and new year. I’ve got loads of annual leave left but we aren’t travelling for Christmas and there isn’t anything going on. So I’m torn between taking the week before Christmas off so I can have a long break (I’ve only used about 7 days of leave since February) or rolling my leave forward to use it on something real next year.

vanillandhoney · 29/11/2020 16:19

Hello fellow dog-walker! :)
JulesM73 · 29/11/2020 16:24

Taking just over 2 weeks and can’t wait.

Newuser991 · 29/11/2020 16:25

We close on the 23rd and reopen on the 4th. We get all that free on top of leave allowance. I've taken extra leave around it

Ragwort · 29/11/2020 16:27

Just Christmas Day and 26th Dec - retail, that is when our shop is closed, could probably insist on having the Sunday off but I like working and after so much time on furlough I really don't want any more time at home!

DH off the whole time between Christmas and New Year - he doesn't want to take AL then but has no choice.

Flaunch · 29/11/2020 16:28

I finish on the 17th and go back on the 4th, I’m using 7 days AL for it.

MynephewR · 29/11/2020 16:33

I've worked in restaurants since I was 16 so the idea of taking time off at Christmas is like another world to me. I think my boss would laugh at me if I asked for a week off in December 😂 especially this December as we have been closed for a month so expecting it to be extra busy when we reopen (tier 2).

Have fun though guys! Anyone who is able to take time off around Christmas should relax and enjoy it this year as it's been such a shitty year so it's well deserved.
