How much annual leave are you taking over Christmas?

I'm taking Christmas week off - was originally going to just take those days but now my work is shutting down the week of New Year also. So I'm considering now making it a proper big break after a crappy year and also booking off the week before Christmas too which would be 3 weeks in total. I know I'm really lucky to be able to do this - I've saved a lot of annual leave due to the pandemic, but it leaves me with only a few days left until the end of March so I'm a bit iffy about it.

What's everyone else taking off over Christmas, if you're able to take leave?

Only the weekends and bank holidays. Working from home so didn't feel the need to take anything more since we're obviously not doing much and no commute to avoid!

As little as possible. I don’t get paid if I don’t work. If they decided for me not come in I do. We have not spoken a bit Christmas yet. Last year I worked all over including New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

We’re closed from 24th Dec until 4th jan.

None left! I used it all for hospital appointments this year. New leave starts in January though
We finish on the 23rd and don't go back until the 29th though

I work for the nhs. I don't have any time off over Christmas. No clinical staff in my department are allowed to book annual leave for the two weeks around Xmas and new year. I only have New Years day off. Yay..Not.

Vivana · 29/11/2020 17:48

None I'm working

KittenCalledBob · 29/11/2020 17:57

My employer is always closed for Christmas week (this year 21 to 25 Dec) and has just announced an extra week (14 to 18 Dec) as a reward to staff! (We've been super busy this year because of covid.) So I might take the week after Xmas out of annual leave and have three weeks off Smile

megletthesecond · 29/11/2020 17:59

I might take Xmas eve off.
Our office is closed between Xmas and new year.
I'll probably go back on weds 7th. I always have a day off on the first day of term to try and tidy up.

I'm freelance (music industry) and usually turn down work over the 15-25th Dec period so I can go back home for a week to see my family. Will usually work from 26th onwards.

Right now I have absolutely nothing to do between 13th Dec-24th Jan (thanks Covid). I can't go home as flights now take 9h with multiple stopovers instead of 3h direct with Ryanair (route has been cut), and they keep getting cancelled anyway. And I can't afford all the necessary tests to fly there and back, or spend £300 on a shorthaul return ticket.

Not sure what I'll do during those long 6 weeks... I always need a break come December, but this year I'd give anything for someone to call offering me some work.

Ghostlyglow · 29/11/2020 18:37

We're allowed to take 4 days in the month of December and we've been given Christmas Eve off by the Leadership Team. I'm taking 3 of the days in between Christmas and New Year and the other earlier in the month.

kowari · 29/11/2020 18:39

The 21st, then Christmas Eve until New Year as we are shut.

AlexandraPeppernose · 29/11/2020 20:21

24th Dec till 4th Jan using 3 days annual leave

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2020 20:26

I work in manufacturing and we close over Christmas as standard in our industry. I finish on the 23rd, back on January 4th.

U2HasTheEdge · 29/11/2020 20:38

I am off between the 24th Dec to 4th Jan.

I get the B/H off anyway. I am excited. Worked over Xmas in my last jobs. A huge perk of switching to community is getting the b/h and weekends off.
