Should I retrain as a building surveyor?

My youngest is starting school soon. I have been stay at home mum for the last 3 years, Should I retrain as a Building surveyor? I have no experience in construction but very interested. I would especially love to hear from any building surveyor mums. Especially interested in what the work/life balance is like.

Yes, do it! What kind of surveyor? There will be plenty of work.

I used to work in construction and nearly re-trained as a QS. You need to be pretty comfortable with numbers, but you get the training and there are loads of opportunities. It’s a great job and after a few years you can work for yourself if you want to. It’s a great idea.

Building surveyors are like hens teeth. I used to work for a multi disciplined surveying firm and they struggled to recruit building surveyors. Do it!
