Does anyone else do comping?

I used to enter a lot of competitions and I've just set up a new email address to it and started again.

Does anyone else here comp?
I'm curious to know whether anyone has won anything and if you have, what sort of number of competitions a day/week you normally enter? Obviously it is quite literally the luck of the draw but I'm trying to get an idea whether people are entering a couple or hundreds a day!

It's just for fun and a hobby, rather than with the aim of avoiding ever having to buy toilet roll or pay for a holiday, but I just wanted to get an idea!

My DM won a tv years ago in a radio competition, but I've never won anything.

I'd be grateful to hear from any other compers here on MN!

I used to do a lot of competitions and won a few (garden furniture, a hamper, chocolates) but they’re definitely harder to find now.
Great idea to have an email address dedicated to comping. Just need to find some competitions to enter now.

Itsnotalwaysme · 28/11/2020 17:26

I don't but my friend does all the time, from what I can see on social media she must enter at least 3 a day.

She has won holidays, years worth of dog food, alcohol and foods and that's only the ones I know about!

That's encouraging to hear! I have been entering quite a lot - around 100 a week (I look for them when I'm watching tv), so fingers crossed! It would be lovely to win something as money is a bit tight at the moment so I'm trying to be frugal and wouldn't spend on luxuries otherwise!

Real hardcore compers enter hundreds a day but I don't have time for that. I'm not comping at the minute but when I do I try and enter about 25/30 a day. I've won a holiday, a wine hamper, Michael Buble tickets, various books etc

Where do you find the competitions? I’m currently doing surveys for points for M&S vouchers and would like a little variety but don’t want to go down the earn £10 a day route

DK123 · 28/11/2020 22:46

@Itllbeaninterestingchristmas I look for magazine, newspaper and radio ones mainly as there are usually a lot listed on each site but I also look at the sites that index them such as competition finder.com

I don’t do them anymore but entered snd win lots when my children were little.

There was a website called www.loquax.co.uk where pretty much all competitions could be found. There was a brilliant forum too. The site seems to still be live, but I’m no longer registered and you need to be registered to see anything.

Good luck 🤞🏼

I used to do this more when the kids were little and I've won a couple of things.

Both times I've won is when there was "effort" involved, ie, not just filling out an online form. One i had to send an email and one I sent in a postal entry rather than be charged for a text.

Only do it rarely these days, not the hours in the day.

purpledagger · 29/11/2020 09:17

I used to, but not so much anymore.

I subscribe to a comping website, which sources competitions and provides me with links and answers. I rarely use it but it's so cheap, I haven't cancelled.

When I first started comping, it was via postcards, but most are online now, which is much easier. Many now want you to use social media, so I don't enter those ones.

papaelf · 29/11/2020 09:24

When my kids were young I had a subscription to a magazine thing which came loaded with comp details. It was before the internet was commonplace in homes. I can't remember what it was called but I used to buy packs of postcards and spend hours sending them off - stamps were much cheaper back then too! I won a few things but nothing substantial.

YukoandHiro · 29/11/2020 09:29

I enter the ITV ones regularly but have never won anything...

diplodocusinermine · 29/11/2020 09:30

Used to and won quite a bit - weekends away, Ipad, toiletries, DVDs - best was a wonderful holiday worth about £10K where we stayed in places we could only ever dream of. Took quite a bit of work but I was self employed and could work it in during the day. Stopped when all competitions seemed to go on facebook and became too much of a hassle.

purpledagger · 29/11/2020 09:41

..... (posted too soon)

You have to enter 40+ a week. Comps close all the time, so it may take a few before you start to see any wins.

Only enter comps with a prize that is of use to you. I once blindly entered a comp to an event I know I couldn't attend and won.

Enter comps from smaller promotors. I've won a few times from my local paper, which will have fewer entries than say a comp from asda.

DK123 · 29/11/2020 15:59

Really hoping I'm going to win something, it would be so nice! I've made a dedicated email address and listing everything I enter so I don't accidentally enter twice and get disqualified.

It's very encouraging to hear others have won things, I entered a lot a few years ago and didn't win anything.

To anyone who has won a prize - have you normally received an email or a phonecall (if phone number was included in the entry) to tell you you've won?
