Bank compo after 10 years?

Has anyone had this? I had a cheque this morning from HSBC for £25.
I stopped banking with them under very dodgy circumstances, I owed them a fortune and just stopped using my account, and set up a repayment plan through a debt management company (I was young and very stupid). I still owe about £400 and have a standing order to pay a bit each month.
Is this some sort of trick on their part? The letter says it's because they gave me poor service, but I'm worried if I cash it then I'll envoke some sort of issue around the previous debt.
Any experience of such a weird thing?
