Does anyone have a Facebook Portal?

I think I have already talked myself out of it, but been wondering about whether it would work for my 95yo Gran to keep in touch with people at the moment.

If you have one - how easy is it to use? Like, does it ring very obviously?

Are there lots of menus? The absolute ideal would be literally to have our faces on screen that she could tap if she wants to call. We’ve already ruled out an iPad or similar because there’s be too many steps.

She is very much non-tech-using at the moment - think weekly calls because she’s pressed something on the digital thermostat and is beside herself that she’s broken something.

Any thoughts?

We have them, bought by my mother for us so she could keep in touch more easily with all the young grandchildren.
It's fairly simple to use once it's set up, provided your grandmother has Facebook / WhatsApp already. The TV "rings", you answer with the control.
Favourite contacts can be on the main screen so you just pick the one you want to call.

This is portal for TV though, not the tablet version.

We considered getting one for my grandfather whose early 80s but he already has trouble with his phone so decided against it. English is his second language though and as he gets older he's reverting back to his first language, which we don't speak fluently. I suspect he'd have an easier time if we did as he's fully capable.

So I suppose it comes down to how your grandmother is with technology in general.

I think that’s going to be the kicker, she’s not, and never has been, good with technology.

Can it be set so that the contacts are the thing that always show? That view on the ad looked like what I want, but then it showed lots of different screens with different features.

She also doesn’t have FB/WhatsApp, though we could set it up for her. We would also have to set her up with an Internet connection, which again I’m willing to do, but I think it might all cause her more angst.

You can disable the option to have your photos ect scroll through the main screen, so it's just your favourite contacts. That's what I've done. But, given than youd have to set her up with internet, and Facebook, you might be better off getting her a cheap android tablet with a mobile contract and putting WhatsApp on that for her. Set it up so that only WhatsApp is in the main screen. You can even shortcut contacts to the main screen I believe. I think in the long run that would be far simpler.

Hi, would anyone who has purchased the Facebook portal be so kind to send me an invite to access the referral program discount?
Thank you! :)
